You have to find a WDX (Content) -Plugin which is able to provide such information.
See https://www.ghisler.com/dplugins.htm#content -or- TotalCmd.net

Next create a user defined custom column:
http://www.ghisler.ch/wiki/index.php/Custom_columns

Ehm? The same? :D
You have to find a WDX (Content) -Plugin which is able to provide such information.

Since I doesn't use that, maybe somebody can recommend one or two related plugins
which are able to provide "page count" of *. DOCX and *.PDF files, please?

xPDFSearch 1.11 - Content plugin (*.pdf)
Discussion
https://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=7423
Plugin page: Download, description und documentation
http://lefteous.totalcmd.net/tc/xpdfsearch_eng.htm --> Click on "Download"... for "wdx_xpdfsearch_1.11.zip"
A double click on the .zip file installs the plugin.

Custom Column:

Code: Select all

[=xpdfsearch.Number of Pages]
Unfortunately, I don't know of any content plugin that would output the total number of pages for a Word document.
I wasn't looking for it now.

Total number of pages in Word document may depend on printer settings. How do you want to count pages if you have no drivers installed for printer declared in the document?

I don't know.
I would assume that the plugin reads the number of pages somewhere from the document properties.
xPDFSearch can count pages of a pdf document and display it in a custumn column!
---------------------------------------------------
There is also a content plugin for documents: ShellDetails Version 1.25
http://lefteous.totalcmd.net/tc/shelldetails_eng.htm

Description:
... The Owner of a file can be displayed as well as (number of) Pages in documents like TIFF or DOC. ...

But [=shelldetails.Seiten] or [=shelldetails.Pages] is not working for me.

There is another plugin -> Office2007wdx_64 0.0.3.1 with the following restriction:
Content fields can be used for search only!

Unfortunately a search in TC for *.doc and *.docx documents with a certain number of pages
with this plugin has not produced any results.

http://totalcmd.net/directory/content.html
viewtopic.php?t=21382
http://totalcmd.net/plugring/office2007wdx_64.html

Therefore I don't know any working plugin for Word documents at the moment,
which could display the total number of pages in a customn column.
EDIT: There was a misinterpretation of the restriction by me.
With this plugin the total number of pages can be displayed (see below ...)!

PDF is a fixed-formatted document which is supposed to be displayed strictly as it's saved. It's not designed to be re-formatted, it may be only scaled to fit its page into a printer page.

Other documents, used by text/document editors, by design are fully editable with page template replacing and text reflowing available so it's impossible to know number of pages before you finish editing end export final version to PDF.

You can only estimate page count basing on a user-defined page size (f.e. number of characters per page), but such sizes have different definitions in different countries, they depend on local typographic tradition. This size is called "publishing sheet", "standard manuscript page" or using similar wording, see Wikipedia entries in different languages:
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normseite
You can notice, that there is no such term in English wiki:
https://forum.wordreference.com/threads/publishing-sheet.3521940/

Such page count is implemented in ebook readers.

Not for me either, even though I expected it to, since the same attribute can be shown in Explorer.

A further check has shown that for *.docx files the total number of pages is displayed(!)
with the plugin Office2007wdx_64 0.0.3.1 and field [=office2007.Pages]

For password-protected files no page number is shown.
*.doc is not a supported file extension of this plugin (see also "Supported files extensions" in ReadMe.txt)

Notes on the file properties in Windows Explorer:
- A .doc file with content of 3 images on 2 pages and some text only showed 1 page in the file properties,
i.e. the total number of pages specified by the Windows Explorer - especially with image content - can also be incorrect.
- In another 10-page .doc document, Windows Explorer did not display any page count at all in the file properties.
- For two documents (.docx [compatibility mode]), the number of pages was displayed once and not displayed once.

I have made a request regarding ShellDetails 1.25 to the plugin author Lefteous:
But [=shelldetails.Seiten] or [=shelldetails.Pages] is not working for me.

We already tried some plugins at this thread, but none worked.
Do you know a working one?

Hi,
I don't know one for page numbers but you can search on this website: https://www.ghisler.com/plugins.htm
More plugins can be found on the unofficial plugins site https://totalcmd.net/. This site is independent from total commander and also hosts new and beta plugins.
