Total Commander won't delete files from USB to recycle bin.

Post by *CodeX »

There seems to be a big flaw, which exisits probably from the very begining, I'm not 100% sure because I didn't check it previously.
The problem is that TLC won't move files deleted from USB to recycle bin, instead what it does is direct and unrestorable deletion :!:
Well, maybe I'm wrong and there do exist settings responsible it. Please help me.

What USB do you mean - pendrive, SD card, HDD, SSD, whatever?

Yes, when I delete files from my USB stick via Windows Explorer they always go to the recycle bin (as far as they are not too big), but when I do exact the same procedure using Total Commander - files from my USB stick don't go to the bin, and I can't restore them.

That's strange, Windows doesn't support the recycle bin on USB sticks.

Now it's also clear to me why an asymmetric synchronization between
- internal hard disk (HDD) and
- USB stick, FAT32 formatted
the files deleted on the USB stick do not end up in the trash.

With me, it did not move the deleted files from USB sticks, namely FAT, FAT32, NTFS formatted
under Windows Explorer 10 to the trash.

- Which Windows version do you use?
- How are your USB sticks formatted (FAT, FAT32, NTFS,..)?

Windows 10 Pro (x64) Version 1809 (Build 17763.348)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.4OGHz, 16 GB RAM
TC 9.22rc2 x64/x86 | Everything - Version 1.4.1.938 (x64)

Maybe, for some reason the Explorer sees USB stick as an external HDD?

There may be such a case when you remove local partition or turn off USB HDD and USB stick reuses the drive letter…
But there are also some third party tools that can extend recycle bin features (however, I don't think it's the case).
