Epps & Petermad,
Thanks for all your input.

I'm on Win10 Pro, I_view 4.52 w. plug-ins, Copytransheic and the MS image extension as well as MS video extension - installed in this sequence.
My 1) file was matter of fact from using your link.

I have removed all I-view files and tried both I_view zip version and setup 4.52 with latest plugins.
I_view will now open my 3 sample files directly; but I have no luck w. lister even with IviewAdditionalTypes=*.heic.
PhotoViewer works fine.

polle452: Could you please post the [Lister] section in your wincmd.ini

I cannot make it work. I've tried both the 32b and 64b IrfanView.

You can have mine:
[Lister]
textwidth=81
binwidth=75
SearchGoBack=3
BmpStartup=1
Multimedia=1

IView=1
IViewPath=%COMMANDER_PATH%\PROGRAMS\IrfanView\i_view32.exe
Maximized=0
x=400
y=100
dx=1083
dy=876
Wrap=0
HTMLasText=0
LinkBraces=1
RTF=1
LeftMargin=200
RightMargin=200
TopMargin=200
BottomMargin=200
TabWidth=2
Caret=1
Font4=Lucida Console,10
Font5=Arial,10
IviewAdditionalTypes=*.icl *.ico *.ccx *.dds *.xcf *.heic
UserEncodings=UTF-8 (65001)|OEM - nordisk (865)
BgColor=16777215
FgColor=0
BgSelColor=255
FgSelColor=16777215
GifMinDelay=0
CenterBitmap=1
QuickMaximized=0
QuickX=2021
QuickY=69
QuickDx=1085
QuickDy=887
Font3=Arial,-11,b
UnwrapWidth=2048
ShrinkBitmap=2
Remenber to restart TC after making changes to wincmd.ini - actually the best is to open wincmd.ini in Notepad (or alike), close TC, make the change to wincmd.ini, save wincmd.ini and then restart TC.

Also check:
Preferences>Configuration>Edit/View>Configure internal viewer,
Mine seems to work only if the 'Use Irfanview/XnView for graphics other than BMP' is selected.

[Lister]
.
.
IView=1
IViewAdditionalTypes=*.heic
IViewPath=G:\Programs\Iview\i_view32.exe
.
.

My wincmd.ini is not as elaborate as petermad's; but these 3 lines should make it work - path to your specific location for i_viewxx.exe

I cannot make it work.
I have tested on a clean Windows installation with the HEVC + HEIC add-ons.

Everything works though IfranView (and Windows in general).
But not via lister. When switching to Image/Multimedia (#4), it will only display binary. All other image formats work perfectly.

I have the exact same settings in my lister section as mentioned above.
And I've tried all possible permutations of settings.
I'm running TC9.22a.

Any suggestions ?

I guess you missed what I wrote earlier:
If I install "CopyTrans HEIC for Windows" under Windows 10 I can also view heic files in Lister by use of IrfanView under Windows 10.
I thereafter had to reinstall the "HEIF Image extensions" to be able to view heic files in Windows Photos (Metro app), but after that the "HEIF Image extensions" and "CopyTrans HEIC for Windows" seems to coexist fine.
So install "CopyTrans HEIC for Windows": https://www.copytrans.net/copytransheic/ and then reinstall "HEIF Image extensions"

To be able to view .heic files with the Lister, I followed the above contributions, especially these two

Thanks at this point for the detailed information!

After installation with file CopyTransHEICforWindowsv1.004.exe I could display .heic files with Lister.
In the context menu there is the following entry since installation: "Convert to JPEG with CopyTrans",
namely if you right-click on a .heic file.

After calling a .heic image file the file extension had to be reassigned:
"How should this file be opened? -> Always with IrfanView (x64)".

wincmd.ini
[Lister]
IviewAdditionalTypes=*.icl *.ico *.ccx *.dds *.xcf *.jpg *.png *.rw2 *.svg *.webp *.heic

IrfanView Version 4.52 - 64 bit - Settings - Extensions:
☑ HEIC High Efficiency Image File Format * (* = PlugIns)

Ahh, too late...

EDIT:
*) The directlink to CopyTransHEICforWindowsv1.004.exe worked until 17.4.2019 evening - unfortunately not afterwards.
https://www.copytrans.net/download-zip?program=CTH is currently the current download directlink.

Not necessarily - I have it set to "Windows Photo Viewer", and everything works fine anyway.

IrfanView Version 4.52 - 64 bit - Settings - Extensions:
☑ HEIC High Efficiency Image File Format * (* = PlugIns)
Again - this is only necessary if you want IrfanView to be the default viewer for heic files

This link gives a 404 error in my browsers - use https://www.copytrans.net/copytransheic/ in stead - or this: https://www.copytrans.net/download-zip?program=CTH if you want direct download

I understand and accept that HEIC will work with Lister an IrfanView when using copytransheic.

However, I find it weird that IrfanView can display HEIC,
but with IrfanView through Lister I need an additional third party software installed.

Something seems not to be correct.

Yes, you're right... I just wanted to give a complete example of how it could work under Windows 10.

The directlink to CopyTransHEICforWindowsv1.004.exe worked until yesterday evening - unfortunately not afterwards.
https://www.copytrans.net/download-zip?program=CTH is currently the current download directlink.
