Can TC correct a jpeg which Win XP has mysteriously converted to a folder?
I'm guessing something has happened to alter the file type and it needs resetting somehow.
I haven't used CHKDSK or any command like that, although I did defrag the partition and maybe it caused this.
How correct a jpeg converted to a folder in Windows?

No, you can't do that with Total Commander. You need a raw disk editor to change the attribute of the fake folder (subtract 16 from it).
A quick Google search found this tool (not tested myself);

I have used a similar tool before to undelete files, but I have no experience with the above editor.

How does such corruption of file attribute occur?
