Search in plugins, e.g. for TC comments | Search in subdirectories | "F2 Search in found files"

Post by *tuska »

TC 9.50ß3 x64 + x86
Search in plugins, e.g. for TC comments | "F2 Search in found files":

Example:

Code: Select all

- Plugins" tab: tc | comment | contains | Value: OPEN
- General" tab: "Search for:" ed: // Search subdirectories: All (unlimited depth) --> OK
- General" tab: "Search for:" ed: // Search subdirectories: <> All (unlimited depth) --> NOK *)
*) <> All (unlimited depth):
    - current dir only
    - 1 level(s), ...
"F2 Search in found files" can NOT be selected!

Please correct.

Thank you!

You cannot select "F2 Search in found files" together with ed: prefix. This was described in a different thread: TC cannot internally use the ed: search syntax, and Everything cannot see the previous search results.

This has nothing to do with the ed: prefix.

Example:
1    ALT+F7 - Tab "General"
1.1 Search for: leave blank
1.2 Search in: e.g. I:\Daten (current directory in active panel)
1.3 ☑ 'Everything'
1.4 Search in subdirectories: choose A)"current dir only" or B)"1 level(s)" or C) "2 level(s)"
2    Click on Tab "Plugins"
2.1 ☑ Search in plugins:
2.2 tc | comment | contains | Value: OPEN ("OPEN" should be available as comment (CTRL+Z))
3    Click on button "Start search"
3.1 Search results: e.g. [0 files and 2 directories found]
3.2 Try to click on "☐ F2 Search in found files" or press F2 --> greyed out!

Tested with TC 9.50b3 x64 as follows:
- ... up to 20 level(s) incl. --> three of it are faulty
- only "30 level(s)"
- only "40 level(s)"
- only "50 level(s)"
- only "100 level(s)"

Tested with TC 9.50b3 x86 as follows:
- ... up to 3 level(s) incl. --> three of it are faulty
[With "3 level(s)" I get e.g. the following search result: [2 files and 7 directories found] and F2 works]

A few tests with TC_clean_x64.ini.

The 3 levels mentioned under point 1.4 do not work for "F2 Search in found files".

You cannot access old search results when a search fails. This is a known limitation. Make any dummy search to see the old results again.

The first search is always successful, i.e. I get search results!

But if as directory depth the following was set:

Code: Select all

- "current dir only"
- "1 level(s)"
- "2 level(s)"
then it is no longer possible to limit the search with F2.

If the directory depth is set to e.g. 3 level(s), then it is possible,
to check "☐ F2 Search in found files" or press F2 successfully.

Please let me know if you need a video at @support.

Ahh, I'm so sorry!

I overlooked that my supposed mistakes were search results ONLY WITH FOLDERS.
But there should have been files under it, so that I can continue searching with F2.

Please consider this case as not relevant.

@Moderators
Could you please move this case to the forum "Total Commander (English)"?
Thank you!

Now I'm a little insecure after all.
Help - F1 wrote:F2 Search in found files
If checked, the next search will be performed only within the displayed search results.
Help - F1 (German) wrote:F2 Suchen in gefundenen Dateien
Falls angekreuzt, erfolgt die nächste Suche nur in den angezeigten Dateien und Verzeichnissen
According to the German help description it should be explicitly possible to search with F2 also in found directories.
Currently F2 requires files to be included in the search results.

In other words:
If the next search should only be possible within the displayed search results (files and folders) with F2,
then this is currently not possible if the first search result contains only folders and no files.

Could you please give me your opinion on this?
Thanks!

I see - indeed this function only searches in found files, not folders.

2Hacker
Unfortunately I have to ask you to move the topic back to the forum "TC9.5x bug reports (English)".
HISTORY.TXT wrote:06.11.19 Release Total Commander 9.50 beta 4
05.11.19 Added: Find files: "F2 search in found files" now also searches in previously found folders (32/64)
The example here - point 1 - 3.2 unfortunately does not work.

Search in separate process... Alt+Shift+F7

If folders and files are present in the first search result,
then you can continue searching for folders or files with "F2 Search in found files/folders" --> OK!

Currently there are still the following problems:
1. If only folders are available as search results after the first search,
then you can no longer search, because F2 is grayed out.
2. If a folder "Macros" and a text file with "Macros" in the file name are present as search result,
e.g. after the first search run, then F2 can be executed (because there is also a text file),
but after the second search, only the text file is displayed and not the folder (this folder was hidden)

13.11.19 Release Total Commander 9.50 beta 5
10.11.19 Fixed: Find files: Option "F2 search in found files/folders" wasn't enabled when only folders were found (32/64)
This is fixed in TC 9.50ß5 x64 / x86 :)
Thanks!
