BUG: 100% core usage on external compressors separate archives

Post by *isidro »

When selecting "Create separate archives, one per directory", total commander uses 100% of one of the cores.
Compressing without that checkbox will leave all the CPU to the compressor.
I'm using Total7zip to compress to 7zip.

By the way it would be nice to have all 7zip functinallity without an external plugin.

I don't think that it's caused by that specific option. The Total7zip plugin has an option to limit the number of CPU threads, so I would try to reduce it from the default (which seems to use all cores). It's in the Alt+F5 pack dialog when choosing the plugin and clicking on "Configure".

My 7zip setting is already set for 2 cores, and when I compress a folder it will use 2 cores (50%) leaving half of my CPU power free (I have a 4 cores i5 4460). But if I tick separate archives option, even if I only have same folder selected, it will use 75% of the CPU: 50% the 7zip, and 25% Total Commander which might be monitoring external compressor, or something. That behaviour doesn't happen if chosen compressor is internal.

Total Commander shouldn't take any CPU while packing - maybe it's the plugin waiting for 7zip, it would be running within the Total Commander process. I will try to reproduce it.
