5 Tips To Keep Your Refrigerator Working Properly

We assume that most households have a refrigerator, as it’s a must-have item to preserve food and make ice. But how many people know how to keep it working properly? Any item has its expiry date, but it’s not fixed; it often depends on the way we use and the way we maintain the appliance. Here are some tips to follow to keep your refrigerator in tip-top shape:

1.Adjust it to the right temperature

All fridges allow us to set up the temperature, or the so-called freezing level. Why do we have to pay attention to it, though? Because it will help you save food and energy, leading to saving costs as well. Too low temperature will freeze your food to the point where it is no longer usable, but a warm temperature also causes food to turn rotten. And one more reason is to keep our refrigerator from being overburdened. The perfect temperature for your refrigerator is 2˚C to 4˚C and the deep freezer should be kept at -15˚C. This gives you the optimal freezing temperature without ruining your food. Check the temperature regularly to avoid sudden changes.

2.Cover your food

This tip might be overlooked by many people. The truth is that the moisture from food and also the air will be removed by the compressor. If you keep your food in sealed containers such as bags, boxes, and reusable plastic containers, the compressor just needs to remove the water from the air, so it won’t be exhausted as quickly. By the way, with this tip, your food will be prevented from spilling and being contaminated.

3.Keep the refrigerator full

You may think that the opposite is true because keeping more food is making it work much harder, based on logic. We will try to explain this truth based on science. When the refrigerator has a lot of empty space, the compressor will work harder to cool those spaces, though it’s not necessary. The refrigerator working hard means that you must in turn work hard to pay for it. In other words, it’s not working efficiently. But what if I don’t have more food to make up the wasted spaces? Using bottles of water can help you to do that.

4.Check the condenser coils

These coils are easily covered with dust and grime; it may lead to a decrease in their function, which is cooling the insides of your refrigerator. Remember to clean the condenser coils at least 2 to 3 times a year, or you may buy new ones if needed.

5. Close the door

We see many people just leave the door open when taking out and putting in food. It will form a habit for that member and other members of a family, especially children. When you open the door, the warmer air from outside enters the refrigerator, and it must then cool down the air again, meaning it has to work harder. Close the door when you leave, even if you will be going back in a second.

These are useful tips to keep your refrigerator functioning for longer. Try synchronizing again, and look out for a file which is NEWER on the USB drive: While synchronizing, the file would have the current date and time. Be careful not to synchronize this file back to the main storage!
