What the optimal configuration to speed up thumbnail ?

Post by *loki5100 »

Hello

What is the optimal configuration settings to speed up thumbnail creation (directories with large amount of images) ?
Also does their is some plugins or tools that can help the speed up ?

I saw that in the upcoming total commander 10 that now it's will use exif info to get thumbnail but I m afraid that not to much images have such info in their Exif, and as I set my thumbnail to 280 I guess the exif info will not help.

Note: I spend 1 day to find a good image viewer (something similar to acdsee) when I discover than in fact total commander can be an excellent (the best in fact) image viewer thanks to it's thumbnail :)

Thanks you!

It really depends a lot on the file types. For example, ulister is quite slow loading thumbnails, but may be the only option for e.g. Office files. So you may move it further down the list so it isn't used for every file.

Hi Ghisler I m happy to speak with you, it's more than 20 years I use total commander, can not imagine my life without it so thanks again !

One remark, as now most drives are SSD, the IO is not anymore the main bottleneck, and here definitively it's the CPU. So maybe we could made the thumbnail generation process in multi thread to use all available CPU ?
