Issue with administrator privileges?
Is it possible that TC 10.00ß7 does something unexpected to the administrator privileges? I use Windows 10 with an administrator account. Since I installed TC10.00ß7 a couple of days ago, TC froze when I tried to start it, and I could terminate it only in the task manager. I tried to uninstall and reinstall a couple of times, but the behaviour was the same. Even installing TC 9.51 again did not work properly. The remedy was finally to reinstall TC 9.51 once again by running the setup again with the option "run as administrator" (although my user account is an administrator account). Now TC 9.51 works again. I saw in the changelog of TC 10 that there are changes to the installer and its use of admin rights. Can you imagine that it can cause the trouble that I described? I hope I described the problem clearly.
Re: Issue with administrator privileges?
You will not have any such problems if you don't use an Administrator account by default.
Its enough to enhance your rights when needed.
The only thing special with the installer are the question if you want protection for the TC dir
which I would never select.
You can figure out yourself if the installer makes problems for you by not using it.
Just extract the files from the TC installer and start TC from this tree.
Also you can make an install into a new tree and don't use protected dirs like program files as TC home.

Thanks a lot for your reply. Your tips may solve the issue for me, but I guess there are millions of windows users out there who use admin accounts. Those who use TC may wonder about its unexpected behaviour, while other applications don't have such effects. That's why wondered whether TC 10's handling of admin right is intentional as it is.

Thats one of the security problems we have with Windows users.malungu wrote: 2021-04-26, 17:51 UTC Thanks a lot for your reply. Your tips may solve the issue for me, but I guess there are millions of windows users out there who use admin accounts.

This millions of users never need admin rights for their normal work, some of it never ever.
In a normal Windows installation the users have not admin rights by default
he/she can get them if needed by the UAC and this works.

Re: Issue with administrator privileges?
Could you give me more information, please? So far you are the only user who has reported this problem. What exactly happens?TC froze when I tried to start it
1. The Total Commander window does not appear, but totalcmd appears in the task manager
2. The Total Commander window appears, but the spash screen never disappears
3. The Total Commander window appears, but cannot be used

It was this case. I was not able to use it and had to kill the process in the task manager.ghisler(Author) wrote: 2021-04-27, 13:57 UTC 3. The Total Commander window appears, but cannot be used

Re: Issue with administrator privileges?
If it happens again, you could try to find out the reason of the hang with the tool "what is hang":
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/what_is_hang.html
You will probably need to run it as adminsitrator too to catch the error in the hanging TC.
