Recovering password from SFTP plugin.

Post by *dgpr_deleted5 »

Hi.
I recently installed SFTP plugin and I was using it for
quite a long time but I am about to reinstall TotalCMD
but I forger my password to one of the server and my
question is how can I recover that passowrd? I found
sftpplug.ini but password seems to be encrytped in some
way. Those are numbers from 0 to 9. It looks something
like this:
0184732649275492734729467279132134 (don't worry this
isn't real) anyone have idea how to decrypt that or
something?

Which password exactly are we talking about? The password for the SFTP server or its private key? You can (re)set those yourself on the SFTP system. If you protected the SFTP connection password with the TC master password, you're out of luck. There's no way to retrieve it, but you can reset it by removing the value from the password= line (everyting after the =).

Which password exactly are we talking about?
The normal password that you type in the textbox.
If you protected the SFTP connection password with the TC master password, you're out of luck.
I think I doesn't even have master password setup.
There's no way to retrieve it, but you can reset it by removing the value from the password= line (everyting after the =).
So as I understand there is a way to recover it then it is not using master password?

Neither password I described above can be recovered as far as I know. Do you still have some way to access that remote system via SSH (e.g. PuTTY)? If so, set a new password on that system and you're done.

You can use the tool BulletsPassView when not running TC as administrator:
