Hotkey for to use a saved search in Find Files window

Post by *bartosz.jarmuz »

Hello everyone,
I use the Find Files feature a lot with some predefined search settings (certain directories etc).
I have this setting saved in the 'Find files' dialog, but I wonder... Is it possible to create a taskbar button or a hotkey that would trigger search with these settings loaded? Possibly with the 'Find text' textbox focused, so that I can just start typing...?

Currently I need to open the Find Files dialog, click on the Load/Save tab, pick proper one and then enter the search phrase.

Kindest regards,
Bartosz

Search the help for "LOADSEARCH". Does that help?

LOADSEARCH=saved search name
on a button will start the search immediately.

To use this with a hotkey, you would have to define a new em_xyz command yourself via Configuration - Options - Misc - Choosing a hotkey - Magnifying glass - Category: Usercmd.ini - New...

Thank you very much - but is there a way that a search does not start automatically, but rather allow me to enter the text that I am looking for?
I am finding files that contain text (different texts each time) so starting up a previous search is just wasteful :)

Yes, sorry.

Open the Find Files dialog with your stored settings:
Command: LOADSEARCH saved search name

History.txt wrote:12.08.20 Added: Command LOADSEARCH <saved name> (e.g. on button):
Put one equal sign = in front of name to start searching immediately,
Command: LOADSEARCH=saved search name

two == to start and feed to listbox after search (32/64)
Command: LOADSEARCH==saved search name

Thanks a lot - Total Commander never stops to amaze me.
I had a look into the wiki, but I don't see the answer - is there a way to focus the 'Find Text' box when the LOADSEARCH command is executed?

Or alternatively, a hotkey to quickly focus on that box, because it's quite a few Tabs to get there...

No, you would need something like a AHK-script for that.

Alt+T for the English language.

See the letters with an underscore, this you can use to reach the components by pressing "Alt key + that letter" together.

For the 'Find text'-box it is Alt+t on English TC-language setting, other TC-languages may have other letters underlined (or none at all).

Just checked the 50 available languages - the only two languages that without a hotkey for "Find text" is Indonesian and Latvian.

No that is only in 17 languages ;-)

[OT]My own language has had a hotkey since version 1.50 (only 4 languages was supported back then): https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/findfilestc15dan.png

That is good enough, thanks a million, guys!
