Feature request: Multi-select (range of) files by long tap all

Post by *pstein »

Ok, I can multi-select many files by
- long tap at the leading thumbnail left of the first file
- then mark "Select files" from context menu
- put checkmarks on all wanted files.

This procedure is very unusual.
I use it only occasionally and forgot oftentimes how to do this multi-select.
So I had to dig in my notes to get the exact procedure.

This is tedious, annoying and not necessary.

Why can TotalCommander treat the multi-select of files not as almost all other programs by long tap (=add it to the selecting set) and long-tap to remove it again?

Herewith I open officially a feature request to adjust multi-selection of files in TotalCommander to the "usual" way (at least optional)

Thank you
Peter

pstein,
You can tap the icon of any file to select / unselect it.

After choosing "Select files" in the context menu, you can just tap on the last file - and all the files between the first and the last file will get selected - you don't have to "put checkmarks on all wanted files" - but maybe what I wrote was what you meant?

I guess the current solution with a context menu is there because TC cannot know whether you want to select files or to Remove selection from files.

The "tap on the last file" works only if all the files are in one consecutive sequence without gap(s).
What if I wan to select the 2nd, 5th,6th and 11th file?

"TC cannot know whether you want to select files or to Remove selection from files"

Thats no reason. Other programs/apps use a toggle mode:

- Tap on selected file ---> file will be unselected (again)
- Tap on unselected file ---> file will be selected (again)

TC does the same - just (short)tap on the icon - not the filename.

No, you can select multiple ranges of files this way:
1. Long tap on the icon of the first file of the first range and choose select
2. Short tap on the last file to select the first range
3. Long tap on the icon of the first file of the second range and choose select
4. Short tap on the last file to select the second range
This is only meant to select larger amounts of files. To select just a few files, just short tap on their icons.

about the "Feature request" i will say it will be nice if the app has the ability
- during file tranfer into this small window, also "transfer speed". At all tranfers, internal / wifi / bluetooth / USB OTG / ftp / etc
- file compare at : files / folders at all kinds : internall, USB OTG, ftp, etc

i have found issues during
- file tranfser from internal memory to USB OTG. The app "send" the files / folders at device cache memory and at 1-2 seconds shows it has end the job. But the device if i disconnect the usb otg it has files errors.
- move (not copy) files from internal memory to internal memory. The app "send" the files / folders at device cache memory and at 1 seconds shows it has end the job. If i have 10 20 30 ... thousands of small size files and then i select again (after 4 seconds) to move again into a new folder or delete those files, the app crash.
my device has 2 internal file tranfers apps. The first one - from the company of the device - has the same working philosophy like the wincmd but not crash. The second one is from google (maybe), and this works very slow but the results works OK

the label says 3.32 but the "what's new" writes 3.22 + 3.20

at this page
https://www.ghisler.com/whatsnew.htm
is says
June 22, 2022: Total Commander 10.50 RC4 is now available for download.
maybe the right one is RC3

On newer Android versions, you should have a notification about a connected USB OTG device. You need to click on "Eject" or "Disconnect" or similar in that notification to flush the write cache to the device. Total Commander isn't informed when the write cache is written, so it cannot wait with closing the progress dialog until this happens.

Then there should be no data loss when you do this after copying the files.

in my case, there is issue. If some how, the app copy the files without use the device cache, then there will be a solution. Until then i will use the internal No2 file manager.

I'm using the regular Android file functions for copying. There is no option to bypass the cache. The internal file manager cannot bypass the cache either.

this image is from my device. There are 2 file managers from the company and one from the user (me). The issue with the copy from internal memory to USB otg memory

- The app 2 & 3 uses device cache memory. When i select for example 1.5GB of data, both apps disappear the copy window at 1.5 seconds. The next seconds, i press into the upper bar of android to eject the usb memory. After 3-5 seconds is OK. The data are corrupt.

- the app 1 shows the copy window for over 20 minutes. When i eject the usb, the files is OK.

thanks
