layout of drive bars

Post by *tcebob »

Love the folder tab bar and also use the drive bar. Three modifications that I would like to see:

1: With today's drives growing to a terabyte soon the drive description ("[Drive f 80 g] 1,587,638,877K of 35,000,000,000k free") eats up so much space that "free" falls off the end. I don't really need that info; if I want to know I can rt click on the drive letter and look at properties. I don't see an option in configure to dismiss the text.

2: Now that the text is gone could we right-justify the drive list so as to bring the \ and .. buttons into easy view?

3. Or, better yet, can we have the \ and .. buttons on the header bar? I'm used to double clicking for history and favorites so don't need those buttons -- pretty as they are.

Suggestion for the 1st point:

Configuration >> Tabstops >> In footer >> choice DYNAMIC

You can get rid of both the Text and the \ and .. buttons when you disable both:
Configuration->options->layout: show drive buttons
Configuration->options->layout: show drive combobox

if this is what you want. Thus you would need entries for each drive in the favorites [or activate the Combobox with [alt]+[F1/F2] ) but maybe you like it.

Well, sort of. The "footer" is also called the "status bar." Adjusting the units there has no effect on the info in the drive button bar(s). BUT . . . when I turn on the drive combo box it inherits the drive info and leaves the button bar nice and clear. As a bonus, the \ and .. keys are transplanted from the button bar to the combo box bar and are right justified. Only dark side: I now have 2 different drive selection options. Not very dark, at that. Thanks for pointing the way.
