Use the 'fingerprint reader' for the Master Password ?

Post by *PhiloVance »

My Android phone has a fingerprint reader. Is there a way to use a fingerprint for the TC4A Master Password?

It's currently in the beta version. You can get it from the play store here:

2.91b3.

Works as expected for LAN and Personal and Business OneDrive. However, for Google Drive, when I long-press the account and select Properties so I can set the Master Password, nothing happens--no Properties dialog.

The Google Drive plugin uses the user on the phone and the Google Play Services for login. It never sees the user's password. As soon as your phone is unlocked, any app can access your Google Drive after just getting the user's permission, so an attacker could simply install his own app. Therefore if you want to secure access to Google Drive, you need to lock your phone.

This suddenly stopped working. When I try to use the fingerprint reader for the Master Password, I get "Error decrypting password," now for both LAN and OneDrive plugins. I've added more fingerprints to the phone's Fingerprint Reader. Could that be it?

Fortunately the PIN still works.

Yes, it could be. You will have to re-enter the master password manually and click the button to remove the fingerprint, then re-add it.

Bought OnePlus with a software fingerprint scanner. What do I do when I want to activate the scanner in order to store the password? (also not sure what will happen when I'll need to invoke the fingerprint scanner, it's just not there, only the keyboard...)

Help?

Edit:
Following the recommendation here, I tried to.reset the master password. On my old phone, when entering the password for the second time, I see the controls for selecting biometric or scanner for fingerprint unlock. On my new OnePlus there are no such controls. Just a dry OK for entering the password.

You need to set a master password first. When asked to enter it while connecting, enter it but don't click OK yet. Instead, click on the button to enable the fingerprint scanner. If this button doesn't appear, it means that your OnePlus does not provide the fingerprint functions to third party apps. On some phones, you need to allow access to the fingerprint reader in the Android settings for each app separately.
