Akku Drain mit Total Commander im Hintergrund

Post by *McConnor »

Thanks for this invaluable app! Since quite some Time I experience battery drain witch TC running idle in the background (Samsung S22, A13, latest Updates). The app has to be closed manually via the phones task manager to stop this. Battery drain in standby is typically 2,5%/h for me - with TC in the background 5.5%/h. It stops immediately after hard-closing the app. It is not sufficient to stop ongoing LAN connections of the LAN Plugin.

Can something be done about it? Thanks for your help.

I can confirm the problem.
In the last few weeks (probably since 3.40 final) I have noticed an unusually low battery level several times and the biggest consumer by far was always the Total Commander with up to 25%.
In the 24 hours of the display period, however, I only used Total Commander very briefly ( far less than 5 minutes) for copying or moving files.
Except for the Add-On "WLAN Transfer", which was not used during the relevant time, I have uninstalled all other Add-Ons, which unfortunately does not help.
Today I changed the battery usage from Optimised to Restricted and will continue to monitor.

Today, with the limited battery use, it did not appear in the consumption history, so it was below 1%.

I have no explanation, but it happens since v3.40.
My only approach would be Wakelocks, which once in another APP have driven the battery consumption massively up.

Since the log file remained empty, I have test 3 files moved and one copied - exactly as described above.
In addition, I checked the log file several times for more entries, which added up to 13min.

The smartphone is used very intensively 24/7 with several medical APPs.

https://www.totalcommander.ch/android/?C=M;O=D

http://totalcmd.net/plugring/android_adb.html

Befehl: adb.exe -d -r dateiname.apk

https://www.xda-developers.com/stop-wakelocks-android-without-root/
die Wakelocks deaktiviert:

Code: Select all

cmd appops set com.ghisler.android.TotalCommander WAKE_LOCK ignore

I'll stay with version 3.41d for the time being and have followed these instructions
https://www.xda-developers.com/stop-wakelocks-android-without-root/
to deactivate the wakelocks:

Code: Select all

cmd appops set com.ghisler.android.TotalCommander WAKE_LOCK ignore
.

If that doesn't work, I'll roll back to a version <3.40.

I also did test today.

Always in the same environment. Aside from minor Tasks the phone was mainly idle. TC especially was not used actively at all the whole day - yesterday I copied some MP3 files via LAN Plugin and then closed the connections.

So today from 6 to 12 the phone was off the charger. In that time I'm told that commander was entitled as "active in the background" for roughly 5:30h!. In that time my phone ran down from a 100% to 66%. (Roughly 6% per hour). At 12 I closed the active background task of Total Commander in the task manager (red arrow in the the image). In the time from 12 to 19:15 the phone lost another 26% (roughly 3,5% per hour - mainly because I used the camera in between a bit. Other than that the phone was idle too without the active background task of total Commander).

As already stated earlier power consumption nearly doubles with that ominous background task. Something is going on there. You can easily see exactly where I terminated the background process...

Edit:
Here the relevant part of the log:
2023-02-05 23:19:04.758 LAN:DISCONNECT Reaper
2023-02-06 19:21:50.032 HOST:totaldrip:initiate connection to plugin
The test period lies in between the two entries!

I also noticed that when dismissing total Commander via the phones task manager there remains the above mentioned background task that has to be terminated separately.

What do you mean with "ominous background task"? In the Android task manager I can only see the last opened apps, I can't see any active tasks. Do you use some third party task manager to see this?

Also the only thing I can see in your log which could be causing problems is that you started a plugin session with the Dropbox/totaldrip plugin but then didn't open any connections, which is very strange.

This is shown by my s23 regular "task manager" after I dismissed the TC foreground task. The background task still will sit in memory and only after I dismiss it also the battery drain will stop.

The Dropbox entry is showing practically the end of my test session (see the time in the log and the posting time in the forum) when I was uploading the screenshot to Dropbox for using it in this forum. It does not have to do with the battery drain.
