ALT+left mouse hold + drag no longer scrolls file window
Not sure if this is an 11 beta bug or intentional, but here goes anyway…
In earlier versions, when looking at a directory with a lot of files such that the window can scroll through them all, you used to be able to hold the ALT key and click on a file with the left mouse button and whilst holding that left mouse button depressed, with the ALT key, you could drag/move the file to elsewhere in the current window (say to the top of the directory) to drop it into a sub-directory located at the beginning of the file listing and the fie display window would scroll backwards as you hovered the held file over the very top of the window.
This ability to quickly and easily reposition a file no longer works in v11 betas either 1 or 2. Perhaps some functionality has been broken?
Edit: It appears the functionality has been modified. The window used to scroll by moving the mouse to the top, but now it is to the left and right borders instead that triggers the scrolling. Why was it necessary to remove the top of folder trigger for scrolling?

I cannot confirm this, here it works as usual - tested with TC 11.00b2 32bit and 64bit under Windows 7 and 10

Maybe you have enabled rubberband selection in Configuration - Options - Operation?

How about dragging to Copy (without holding down the Alt-key) does that work for you?

The rubber band option is only available when using the left mouse button selection mode (configured on the same dialog page).Checked and greyed out. Inaccessible

Re: ALT+left mouse hold + drag no longer scrolls file window
No that doesn't scroll the window either. At least not from dragging to the top or bottom, only to the left or right side borders.petermad wrote: 2023-05-17, 07:27 UTC 2DRP535

Re: ALT+left mouse hold + drag no longer scrolls file window
Aha, you must be using Brief View (Ctrl+F1) - I can confirm that in Breif View the panel does no longer scroll up and down while dragging as it did in TC 10.52.No that doesn't scroll the window either. At least not from dragging to the top or bottom, only to the left or right side borders.
it is probably due to this fix;

Re: ALT+left mouse hold + drag no longer scrolls file window
Yes, indeed, this was changed because of this bugfix. You now need to drag to the left or right edge of the window in brief view to scroll left/right.

But how do we now scroll while dragging up or down? (to copy/move a file to a directory that is currently not visible). You now need to drag to the left or right edge of the window in brief view to scroll left/right.
In my oppinion the current behaviour is a bug.

Re: ALT+left mouse hold + drag no longer scrolls file window
?? You just quoted how. Drag sideways instead of up/down. Since the scrolling direction is horizontal, it makes more sense to drag sideways.petermad wrote: 2023-05-18, 13:53 UTCBut how do we now scroll while dragging up or down? (to copy/move a file to a directory that is currently not visible). You now need to drag to the left or right edge of the window in brief view to scroll left/right.
I noticed the following things:
* In TC 10.52, I can't get to the last column by dragging down.
* In TC 11.00b3, if the columns are so wide that only one column fits in the panel and the last column has only one or two entries, dragging to the right does not allow me to access the last column.
* Dragging and scrolling to the target column is hard (it scrolls too fast or not at all).
Re: ALT+left mouse hold + drag no longer scrolls file window
I see that now, it it just more awkward because the area you have to hold the cursor in is very narrow (on the left side it is just the area where the icons are - I moved the cursor out on the border and the it stopped scrolling, so I never got to the top.Drag sideways instead of up/down
In TC 10.52 I could also scroll by holding the cursor over the Tabstop header in the top or the status bar in the bottom - more convenient in my oppinion - also because I don't hav to worry if I accidentally move the file because it is always prevented when you hover the Tabstop header or the Status bar, but not when you hover the icons or the right side of the item names

Re: ALT+left mouse hold + drag no longer scrolls file window
All correct. Brief view etc. I think this is a bit of a case of the cure being slightly worse than the disease. I never noticed the original bug probably because it required an extreme configuration (oversized columns that took up entire visible width) to show up, but I do now notice the new bug created by the fix with a conventional configuration. I agree with petermad this seems to be a step backwards. It is less convenient and less intuitive even if it does solve a bug induced by an extreme display configuration.

The bug in version 10.52 isn't dependent on column size.
For version 11.00b3, it isn't an extreme display configuration. You can have a small panel size if you drag the panel divider. Furthermore, the column width is dependent of the length of the file/folder names, so if 1 filename or folder name is long, you get a large column width. There is nothing extreme about it.
