A feq (new ?) feature request

Post by *tcm1998 »

I have four more feature request for the allready best filemanager in the world (and I mean that !)

1) Sort on directory size

I use Alt-Shift-Enter quite a lot to find out what's eating the most of my harddisk space. After I've done that, it would be a great improvement if I could sort on the sizes of those dirs. I think this would be only a very minor change in total commander.

2) A horizontal scrollbar in the file panels.
It's quite easy to get those few important columns (like date/time) outside of the window (when working with very long filenames) and quite a pain to get them back (Usually, I drag the spittler all the way to one side and then resize the filename area again).
A horizontal scrollbar would be make things far easier (atleast for me).
Also, a tooltip when the full filename isn't displayed would be nice.

3) Using alternative packers for build in archive types.
When I was trying to get zips to be compressed with 7zip instead of the internal compression, I was a bit disappointed that there was no way to get it working. First, I tried to define 7zip as the zip-packer adding the options I need for the best compression. I never got it working.
Next, I tried to use multiarc with the 7zip support. Well, that works, but it doesn't call it a zip. So I tried to rename the 7z extension to zip. The result was that when I selected the mulitiarc zip (7zip), that total commander switched back to the native zip.

4) Multidrive tree
Well, I guess this one speaks for itself. The possibility that the treeview root is 'my computer' instead of the current drive root, like explorer does.

But even without these improvements, TC ROCKS !! 8)

1) Sort on directory size
Use this: Options / Display / Sorting directories / Like &files (also by time)
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

Use this: Options / Display / Sho&w filename in file list as tooltip if truncated

That should be either your or 7zip's fault. I dont think it is a TC problem.

This should be not too hard if you are using XP or W2K.

Mount all your drives into one directory. Assign a free drive letter to this directory with e. g. "subst p: d:\volumes" where 'p': is a unused drive letter and 'd:\volumes' the folder where the drives are mounted into.

Then you may change to 'p:' and use treeview as usual.

You can easily get them back via Configuration - Options - Tabstops - Default - OK.

Maybe this should display 'also by size and time' ?

Hmm, good one.
I have worked my way through all those options, but somehow I missed it.

Well, the problem seems to be that total commander expects pkunzip which has a different commandline structure from 7zip.
I kind of expected it to work with mulitarc, though.

True, but it's still a pain having to resize both panels just to GET to the time and date or even attribute of a file. Sometimes (Yes I know I have long names) I need to drag the splitter all the way left to get the right panel big enough to display them properly.

But atleast the tooltips help
