Rename not working in "Synchronize Dirs..."

Post by *Norbert »

When I use the "Synchronize Dirs..." command and there are 2 different files with the same name, then I can right click on the file and select "left (or right) context menue" and then "rename", nothing happens. No rename dialog or inline renaming appears.

System is german Windows 11 22H2 with tc11b5.

Confirmed for the Context menu entry "Rename"
but you can use Inline rename direct on the entry in the left or right list.
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3527)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86

For rename files on "Synchronize Dirs" use TC native method - click twice on file name slowly.

click twice on file name slowly.
Or press F6 for left file of Shift+F6 for right file.

Maybe those two shortcuts should be added to the right-click menu in the Sync tool - now that the translators are going to update to v. 11.00. F3/Shift+F3 and F4/Shift+F4 are already in the context menu, so why not F6/Shift+F6

And maybe Rename in the Windows context menu (opened with Alt+Down or Alt+Shift+Down) could be made to use TC's internal inline renaming funktion - as it does in the ordinary File panels.

help.txt wrote:05.06.23 Fixed: Synchronize dirs: Right click on a file, Left/Right context menu: Rename didn't invoke rename function (32/64)
Confirmed fixed for TC 11.00b6 :-)

But items with Shortcuts F6 and Shift+F6 are not added to TC's context menu.

May I alsio suggest that the 2 items:
Show left \tF3
Show right \tShift+F3

are moved down below the first divider line, just before: Compare Left & right \tCtrl+F3
That seems more logical to me.

Thanks for confirming the fix!

The hotkeys are not being displayed in the file context menu because that menu item is being generated by Windows with the rest of the context menu. I'm currently not modifying it.

Regarding the position of menu items, there are more items which work on the left/right file, so I don't think that there is _the_ logical order to use.

I also vote for this proposal:
"May I alsio suggest that the 2 items:
Show left \tF3

are moved down below the first divider line, just before: Compare Left & right \tCtrl+F3

THIS IS indeed much more logical rather than current case.

As to context menu IMHO petermad with phrase "But items with Shortcuts F6 and Shift+F6 are not added to TC's context menu."
wanted to say that we still do not see that new possible operations in context menu at all! So till right now I even did not know that it is possible to rename files. And in current version of context menu it's still no way to find these 2 new records: "Rename left file | Rename right file".

Rename is available in "Left context menu" and "Right context menu". But since it's put there by Windows, there is no hotkey.

I am talking about the first context (right-click) menu that comes up when you right click in the Sync. tool, not the one that comes up when you press Alt+Down or Shott+Alt+Down: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/synccontextmenu.png

It is in this menu I suggest to move, Show left \tF3 and Show right \tShift+F3 and to add "Rename left \tF6" and "Rename right \tShift+F6" (placed after the two F4 entries.

The context menu which appears directly on right click is already very long, I would prefer not to put rename in there too.
Do you really think that this is a good idea?

What do you think - would we write our messages otherwise?
Rhetorical question, IMHO)))

Yes, please - add these new records and change the position of 2 another entries as petermad suggested.

I think it is just as good an idea as to have F4 / ShiftF4 in that menu - that could also be guessed.

I have made a mockup of how I think it could be organized to make it easier to overview. https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/synccontextmenu2.png
