If you have not already configured your FTP connection(s) to "Use passive mode mode for file transfers (like a WWW browser)", then try and enable that - it often solves FTP problems.

Passive mode is set for FTP, but this error also occurs when moving to another directory on the local disk

Just for the records: "Move" is not possible with FTP. TC will always copy at this mode.

2blackman: Do you use BackgroundTransferManager (BTM) to copy/move ?
If you stopped a copy task there, even if you continue afterwords, BTM shows this message at the end.

Again! I don't copy anything, but move from directory to directory. The message about copying failure appears at this moment, but not always. Both on local disk and via FTP

How do you navigate between the directories: Double-clicking on a folder name, or pressing Enter on a foldername, or pressing Ctrl+PgDn on a folder name. Or are you using the CD command in a Button or an entry in the Directory Hotlist or the Start Meno, or a user defined Keyboard Hotkey, or in the Command Line?

You could also be navigating via the Breadcrumb Bar or by writing the directory name in the Current Directory Bar.

When you go out of the directory again (going to the parent directory), do you Double-click the [..] at the top of the file list, or do you press Backspace or do you press Alt+LeftArrow?

Or are you navigating via the Separate Directory Tree (Ctrl+Shift+F8)? Or maybe vis the File window Tree (Ctrl+F8), or the CD Tree (Alt+F10)? Or via the Directory History (Alt+ArrowDown)?

As you can see there are numerous ways of "moving" from directory to directory - you must explain more precisely what you do.

I have been working with Total for many years and there is no need to teach me how to navigate folders. The question is completely different: why does the message “Error copying files” appear when moving?

An you have only been on this board since 30-09-2023, so how am I supposed to know that you are an experienced user.

And, I am not teaching you how to navigate - I am asking you how exactly you navigate when you get those messages, that apparently no one else gets.

So, In order for the rest of us to try to reproduce the problem, you still need to tell us exactly what you do just before you get one of those messages. If we cannot reproduce the problem, there is little chance that we can figure out why you get those messages.

petermad,
I assume "moving between folders" means "moving files from one folder to another", not "browsing folders". Not sure though, as sufficient detail was provided ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Roman
Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Well blackman is writing that it happens "when working via FTP" - it is not possible in TC to move files to or from FTP sites, so I assumed that moving ment navigating. You can though move on an FTP site by renaming and prepending the file name with a new folder name.
