How to show the size of directories ?
I purchased Total Commander as an alternative filing system from file explorer in windows and although I have had the product for a few years I do not find it very user friendly. I have huge problems with space on my laptop hard drives and so I want to carry out another Winter clean up. Whilst I can see all of my directories on the various screens; I cannot tell their size or the size of anyone directory tree. Is there a simple way of turning on directory size?

john.flynn_unison@bt,
Welcome to the forum!
The easiest way is to press Alt-Shift-Enter.
The best way is to use the 3rd party "Everything" tool and enable its integration in Total Commander, showing all directory sizes instantly. You can google about the integration or someone will jump in with a link.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Re: Size of directories
Thanks very much for your reply and advice.
Re: Size of directories
Sorry for a late answer:
You also can get this with the internal command: cm_CountDirContent
So you can put it (together with cm_SrcLong if you normally use the short view like me) on a button (or in the starter menu or in the Dir hotlist if you do not use buttons): cm_SrcLong,cm_CountDirContent
The VisualDirSize plugin is also very useful in this context: https://totalcmd.net/plugring/visdirsize.html,
which I use in version VisualDirSize 1.2. Unfortunately this plugin is only available in 32bit. It is called up after installation with ctrl+q

Re: Size of directories
Instead of VisualDirsize you can use DirSizeCalc Charts <http://totalcmd.net/plugring/dirsizecalc_charts.html> which is available for both 32bit and 64bit TC.
There is a newer version of VisualDirsize - you can find it here: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/plugins/32bit-only/wlx_visualdirsize_1.3_b6_4.zip

Re: Size of directories
I do not remember exactly, but this version 1.3 is not okay for me. I - as I described above - prefer version 1.2 (and also not: dirsizecalc charts).petermad wrote: 2023-12-30, 16:42 UTC There is a newer version of VisualDirsize - you can find it here: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/plugins/32bit-only/wlx_visualdirsize_1.3_b6_4.zip

Maybe you had tried another version 1.3 - I have 7 beta versions of v. 1.3 and the last one (that I linked to) works fine for me - I am not completely sure, but https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/plugins/32bit-only/wlx_visualdirsize_1.3_b6_4.zip might be a version I got directly from the author.but this version 1.3 is not okay for me

Re: Size of directories
Thanks for the hint. But no, I think the version 1.3 b6 4 is published to the public. I have the same version here. Since it is 15 years ago, I do not remember the reason, why I do not use it. But version 1.3 was not okay for me. And additional: 1.2 work well.petermad wrote: 2023-12-30, 17:59 UTCwlx_visualdirsize_1.3_b6_4.zip might be a version I got directly from the author.
