I can see the TotalCommander folder (always) and additionally some (up to 5) folders/links with the arrow. Right now these folders are shown (in this order):
-> de.fraenkische_nachrichten
com.ghisler.android.TotalCommander
-> lysesoft.andftp
-> com.google.android.apps.maps
-> com.adobe.lrmobile

I just restarted my Pixel and took some screenshots.
Here is what I see when I navigate to /android/data directly after the reboot: https://ibb.co/HnP08WM
And here is the list when I leave the folder and go back to it again: https://ibb.co/6PCvjHT

Thanks, I think I understand now what's going on: Total Commander tries to read Android/data in 2 passes:
- First it reads the list of all installed apps, and checks whether it can access folders named /Android/data/app_name with File.exists(). If this returns more than one entry, it stops
- Second, it reads the list of all installed apps and displays them all.

So on your device, some folders seem to return true to File.exists() on later passes only. On Android 13 and older, this was a valid method to check whether these folders existed or not. But on Android 14, it doesn't seem to work any more. I will change the function to always show all apps.

Hi, I found this thread through google. It is impossible to access data forlder on my Pixel.
I installed TC version 3.50b2d. I see the list of apps, when I choose one I get the "write protected" popup, but then DATA folder is not visible and cannot be selected.

I'm on the latest release of grapheneos if that makes any difference, Android 14.

There are currently only two ways to access these folders on Android 14:
1. From a PC or Mac
or
2. Using the built-in "Files" app.

The beta version of Total Commander launches the files app for you in the right directory. To copy files to it, you will have to open a second copy of the files app via the 3 dots in the upper right, and then use split screen mode to use drag&drop.

Drag and drop does not work (for me). I open 2x "files" app, but when I try to drag'n drop all that happens us the original file, and all files I drag along, are selected. They are not copied.

Is any solution possible?

Edit;
FV Explorer is.also.not working. It jumps to "files" "where it asks me to select the folder to allow acces.
I can see all folders in android/data/ but the "permission" is greyed out. "To protect your privacy, choose another folder".

Edit2: samsung s23 ultra used.

Strange, in the emulator drag&drop works between two Files app windows in split screen mode. Are you sure you are using the Android "Files" app and not a Samsung replacement?

You may be correct . The info in "my files" states downloaded from galaxy store. When try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.nbu.files , android/data is empty. So, hints on getting my hands on the official files app are apriciated.

The official files app is preinstalled but hidden. To open it, create a button in Total Commander with the following options:
Function type: View file with app
Command: Click on >> and pick the app Files (often translated to local language). The app name is com.google.android.documentsui

Hi, I am having simmiliar issues here, changing from Google Play-System update to another. Weird.
This is for information, I am monitoring the situation. I will post more if I have changes.

Edit: Oh, I see that I duplicated some information from another thread viewtopic.php?t=80370
Interesting, the first Samsung Anroid 14 firmware allowed Tcmd to work as before, without the "Files" app.

Got a new Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. First firmware no problem (S928BXXU1AWM9).
Tcmd 3.50b3d had access to various folders in data and media after the usuall "allow access" dialogs.

On 23. Feb. Samsung released a first major update for S24 Ultra, S928BXXU1AXB5.
Trouble started. No access anymore. Google Play-System with that firmware was from 1. June 2023.
- Installed the "Files" launcher app from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marc.files,
That gave back access via the hidden Google "Files" App. Without any Tcmd shortcut, Tcmd started the "Files" app.
Not nice, but at least a workaround.

In the last days, 3 Google Play-System updates arrived (click on "Google Play-Systemupdate" in Software info screen).
Dated 1. January 2024 now. First a 84MB update, then 2 smaller. The first on brought the Google Files App, not visible.
No uninstall option in Apps listing. So I had 2 "Files" app, the starter app and the now visible Google version.
So I removed the files launcher app (makes no difference).

Tcmd now starts the internal "Files" app automatically. Access is back to the folders in data and obb which I need.
As above, not nice, but at least a workaround. Missing all Tcmd features of course.

For a test, I created a button as decribed "Function type: View file with app ...".
That does not work. so I removed it again.

enjoy

Hello,
With the latest update on my S24 I am no longer able to access the subfolders in data folder with tc 3.50b4 which i have seen before. I see the folder as empty, but there are subdirectorys which are no longer shown. I also tried installing the files app from Marc, but with this I do only see some folders in data, but many are missing.
Any hints ow to get access again would be very nice :)
Regards
Helmut

Please install the beta version of Total Commander, it opens the Files app directly with the correct directory.

We are Googles hands, no chance.
I have the same experience, see above.
See the other comments and Ghislers clear explanations.

The issue here isn't due to whether or not the user has the latest beta version. With both the release version and the most recent beta:
  • Folders TC was previously given access to are now displayed blank
  • Folders TC has no access to will open the Files app
Fixing this issue requires revoking the folder access previously given to TC so that it'll open the Files app. At the moment it appears TC's ability to access Android/data has been entirely neutered.

Code: Select all
