Win10/11 and TC's shortcuts

Post by *Helix751 »

Hi. I have been a long time user of TC's shortcuts (and even before TC, since DOS's Norton Commander times).

The issue is Windows has progressively taken (sequestered) shortcuts on a system-wide basis, not just Win+<key> combinations, but now also the ones like Alt-F1 or Alt-F2, which I have always used to dapidly change drives in the left/right panels. After each service pack and Windows update, more and more of these shortcuts are sequestered and get in conflict with already set shortcuts in applications (TC, Everything, AHK).

Besides the fact this is unwanted for functions I will seldom or never use at all, I've found no way to disable some (not all) of the shortcuts.

Perhaps the closest alternative was with PowerToys, a huge install to just activate a function that doesn't properly address the issue, but just allows to remap thos unneeded functions to other shortcuts just to free the required ones.

Of course editing the Local Policy to completely disable "all" shortcuts is not the option and the least useful one. Also, using AHK is undesired as well, being more a patch than an actual long-term solution, as it requires running an elevated script at logon.

Does anybody know how can one restore shortcut functionality to TC under W10/11 given these restrictions?
Regards,
Sergio

I use QAP, which is written in Autohotkey.
I overwrite many of the default Win.key shortcuts with it.
There is no need for any elevated script to run at all.

Are you sure it is Window that uses those two shortcuts globally? I don't experience that under Windows 10.

But it is known that third party Graphic card configuration software (NVidia) takes over shortcuts - it can usually be disabled though.

See: https://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=351923 or search for "Graphic card software".

NVIDIA Geforce Experience is stealing Alt+F1 everywhere, not just in games.
Press Alt+Z to configure the system-wide Geforce Experience hotkeys.

Alt+F2 is stolen by NVIDIA Ansel (if installed). To change the hotkey, go to
C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\Ansel\Tools and run NVCameraconfiguration.exe

Thanks Christian. It was indeed Nvidia's software which was causing the mess. Even though in this new laptop I chose the Studio drivers for productivity rather than the Gaming Ready ones, the shortcuts stay the same it seems.

Just to note Alt-F2 was also stolen by Nvidia GE. It was listed together with Alt-F1, Alt-F3, Alt-F9, Alt-R and many, many more in the setup panel.

I could effectively disable all of them. Thanks again.
