Adjust breadcrumb menu position to make it more logical (as in Explorer)

Post by *MVV »

Hi,

I've just understood why breadcrumbs are not too much logical for me, and it is because of dropdown menus position.
A dropdown menu of a breadcrumb item lists subdirs of that item dir but is shown just under that item, but it should be shown at the end of that item, under the next item, like in Explorer, in that case it would be more clear that you switch to a subdir of that dir, not to an adjacent one.

Please compare the same breadcrumb dropdowns in Win10 Explorer and TC:

In Explorer, subfolder names in dropdown are aligned with subfolder name in the breadcrumb bar, while in TC they are aligned with their parent folder name. This is a quite rare case when Explorer does something better than TC. :D

I think it's more convenient when the subitems are shown below the item, not behind AND below it. This way, less mouse movement is needed.

But it is quite confusing to see subdirs at the place of its parent directory... When I see subdirs just under a dir's item, I treat it as changing the item itself, not opening its children.
Maybe you could make it at least optional?

Explorer uses separator as a button for drop down, while TC uses folder name to show a wide button. Lateral shift would be strange in TC.

What could be borrowed, in Explorer all items use regular font, and the current item in the path is bold. This is a nice hint.

Tc uses an underline instead, which is more pleasant. And the position is also more pleasant with Tc: sub(/"below")-folders directly below. It's probably just a matter of habit.

What underlines you have found in the drop down list in the picture?
Not looking, not reading...
