[TC 11.51] Inconsistent headers and navigation for virtual folders (XP+)

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[TC 11.51] Inconsistent headers and navigation for virtual folders (XP+)

Post by *Fla$her »

  1. In the old versions, cm_OpenFonts and cm_OpenPrinters opened \\Fonts\ and \\Printers and Faxes\, but now they open
    \\:Local drive (C:)\WINDOWS\Fonts\ and \\Control Panel\Printers and Faxes\.
    But if I do
    cd ::{D20EA4E1-3957-11d2-A40B-0C5020524152}
    cd ::{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}

    , then this doesn't happen.

    At the same time, when I go to \\My pictures\, I will not see \\Desktop\My documents\My pictures\ in the panel header.
    In addition, in older versions after cm_OpenFonts, when pressing Backspace, the headers of virtual folders in the chain were separated: \\Fonts\ > \\Windows > \\Local drive (C:)\.
    _
  2. At the same time, if I press Backspace or execute cm_OpenControls and then press Enter on the Fonts or Administrative Tools folder, then instead of opening a virtual folder the local folder will open, although logically something like this should happen:
    cd ::{D20EA4E1-3957-11d2-A40B-0C5020524152}
    cd ::{D20EA4E1-3957-11d2-A40B-0C5020524153}

    However, after these commands, pressing Backspace leads to \\Desktop\, not \\Control Panel\.

This is intentional, see petermad's post. There are some problems returning to such folders (unrelated to your report), which will be fixed in the next release.

I don't see any explanation from you for the inconsistencies. Please read the entire post carefully, especially in the "But if I do", "I will not see" and paragraph 2.

It's about inconsistencies (see the title), not that the presence and absence of a path is bad or good.

Is this on XP? Because on Windows 11 cm_OpenFonts brings me to
\\System (C:)\Windows\Fonts
and the stored folder is
shell:Fonts\

This kind of nested virtual folders can't be implemented on XP due to missing functions, as I explained in another thread.

What's on XP?

How does this contradict what I wrote, including about XP?
Have you checked the listed cd ::{GUID} for comparison?

I don't understand what you mean. What does "can't be" mean if I've given examples both with and without paths?

Because storing virtual paths like this does not work on Windows XP.

It's not true. The topic title says "XP+", i.e. the current behavior concerns XP.

What do you mean with that? If the functions are missing, there is no way to do it on XP, sorry.

You wrote that on Windows 11 you return the full path with \\... (C:):
Because on Windows 11 cm_OpenFonts brings me to \\System (C:)\Windows\Fonts
On XP, the same thing happens. What do functions have to do with it?

I still haven't received a clear answer from you. You also didn't comment on the absence of a path when entering 'My Pictures' and point 2.
