How to display name of files (almost) entirely in Thumbnail view?
Hi,
In Source: Thumbnail view, the files are displayed all packed against each other, there is absolutely no visibility and the titles under them is reduce to barely the size of the said icon and one one line. To a point it looks ridiculous and illegible : even my simple "Desktop" icon is visibly called "Deskto..". I've tried many options, but none works. I don't want tooltips and i don't want to display them in details. I just want the classic view from Windows explorer 10/11 and older versions where the file has "space" around it, especially from one row to another, and enough to directly see the name of the file even if it's 2, 3 or even 4 lines long (until it's eventually also truncated by windows explorer if it's really too long and needs to get tooltiped to be viewed entirely).
Where is the option for that please?
Thanks.

Re: How to display name of files (almost) entirely in Thumbnail view?
Have you already tried using Ctrl+Scroll down to see if the size of the thumbnails changes? If so, you can set the size in the options - z.B. 128x96.

Re: How to display name of files (almost) entirely in Thumbnail view?
Hmm, with the default settings (clean .ini file) there is plenty of space to show "Desktop" - see: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/desktopthumbnail.pngeven my simple "Desktop" icon is visibly called "Deskto..".
Could you perhaps have zoomed the thumbnails down to a verey small size?
You set the initial size (before zooming) here: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/thumbnailsize.png
You can add a field where you split the name up in 3 lines - for example like this: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/thumbnailSplitNameIn3lines.png

Re: How to display name of files (almost) entirely in Thumbnail view?
Thank you for answering.
I've tried your solutions, it doesn't exactly work.
I reduced the font size of thumbnails in "option, font, file list font" (because i have a 1440p monitor, i had to increase all font to begin with), and then scrolled to zoom in. Technically i can see more than before, but it's all zoomed in, the thumbnails are way too big compared to their titles and because of the zoom, edges of icons and letters are all rough and distorted.
Also, i've tried this [=tc.fullname:1-17]\n[=tc.fullname:18-34]\n[=tc.fullname:35-100] https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/thumbnailSplitNameIn3lines.png
now i can see longer titles but also 3 lines of the same file title, repeated 3 times when title is shorter, so it's more confusing than anything
i should have mentioned my config first, maybe that's the problem. 1440p monitor + text size in windows accessibility set to 145%
font options here : Image: https://i.imgur.com/uG8TXEa.png (dpi at 250, font size file list Segeo UI 14)
All i need is the same view (more or less) than windows explorer when it comes to thumbnails with a direct view of a few lines under the thumbnail when (and only when) the title is too long. If possible without rough edges due to zoom in. Right now with this config, i like how the font looks, it's just that everything is cropped once past the very first letters of the title.

I only have a 1280x960 screen but the DPI is set to 96.

You should only see the name in 2 lines for short names.now i can see longer titles but also 3 lines of the same file title, repeated 3 times when title is shorter
Maybe you could provide a screenshot of how it looks in you file panels, and maybe also a screenshot of your Thumbnail configuration page.

Re: How to display name of files (almost) entirely in Thumbnail view?
Yes, sorry, i meant it displays 2 lines of the same title with the [=tc.fullname:1-17]\n[=tc.fullname:18-34]\n[=tc.fullname:35-100] custom field option, but still it's way too confusing, no matter what option i use.
Here is without https://i.imgur.com/0bcM0zp.png
here is with https://i.imgur.com/jxSm0wq.png
here is windows file Explorer : https://i.imgur.com/b544u81.jpeg
Explorer is not practical, but in thumbnails mode, it sure is clearer to visualize everything at first glance, that's what i'd like to find back in TC, if it's possible.

Re: How to display name of files (almost) entirely in Thumbnail view?
Reduce the font size and/or increase the thumbnail size.

2Kilook
To get an idea of how much your fiddling with TC's settings influences the display, but with your Windows settings, could you please make a screenshot of a TC started with a clean ini file - you can do that with this command in TC's command line: %COMMANDER_EXE% /i=%TEMP%\clean.ini
You obviously use a much smaller font size in Explorer than in TC.here is windows file Explorer : https://i.imgur.com/b544u81.jpeg

Re: How to display name of files (almost) entirely in Thumbnail view?
Sure thing, here is the view with a fresh reset :
https://i.imgur.com/AsmGqjC.jpeg
As you can see, changing font didn't really improve or worsen the issue, i couldn't see much to begin with.
Maybe TC is not made for me. I liked all the tools it offers but i couldn't pass on the visibility. TC is the first alternative to W File Explorer i've tried so far since i've decided to not use explorer anymore but I have a feeling it's more meant for power users who mostly use it in details view and already know where everything is basically or just need the title of files to navigate. If someone like me often needs a global view of the files (for pictures/movies thumbnails for example) AND their full name visible right away at a glance to navigate easily from one file to another, maybe it's not really suited. If it's the case, it's fine, at least i have tried. And you guys did your best to help, thank you.

Re: How to display name of files (almost) entirely in Thumbnail view?
As I said: Reduce the font size and/or increase the thumbnail size. Test it with font size 11 or something and maybe thumbnails of 256x256 just to check if that works.

Re: How to display name of files (almost) entirely in Thumbnail view?
It's a bit better but not optimal, plus i don't understand why titles are repeated two times. Dunno if there is a workaround or if it's supposed to be like that.
Re: How to display name of files (almost) entirely in Thumbnail view?
Do you still have the custom fields for the thumbnails defined? That could explain the repetition. IIRC the custom fields are shown in addition to the filename because these fields are usually used for things like metadata (e.g. image width/height, ID3 tags and so on).

Re: How to display name of files (almost) entirely in Thumbnail view?
That is because the content of the first line is fixed. And when you use the option "Show custom fields below thumbnails" this is show in a secind line - wich is the workaround.i don't understand why titles are repeated two times. Dunno if there is a workaround
But Also showing capital letters is a waste of time - go into "Configuration" -> "Display" and enable the option "Show.8.3 filenames lowercase (like Explorer)" ( https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/8.3names.png ) - that will help a lot - and then go into "Configuration" - "Thumbnails" an set "Thumbnail size" to for example 128x72 - that fits well for 16x9 fotos, and give considerably more space under the thumbnails for the file name. ( https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/thumbsconfiguration.png - example view: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/128x72thumbsintc.png )
My example view is with bold font in the file panel - with non bold font there will be space for even more characters.
