Suggestion: direct clipboard image paste into file
Suggestion: possibility to paste an image in the clipboard directly into active pane's folder as a new file of corresponding MIME image/* type.
* some simple autonaming with full date/time
* not sure if better to be done as in-program functionality or extension maybe
Thanks.

Re: Suggestion: direct clipboard image paste into file
You can use PasteIntoFile it will add a R-Click entry in your context menu.
You can also use online service like https://ctrl.vi/
If you have new snipping tools from w11, you can set it to autosave and then when you capture all is saved in a dedicated folder you can add in TC directory List.

Maybe this helps: https://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=456002&hilit=clipboard#p456002
You just need nirsoft's nircmd.exe.

Re: Suggestion: direct clipboard image paste into file
This would be a great feature. I often need it and the usual solutions are quite cumbersome.marcin.kowalski wrote: 2025-05-21, 10:48 UTC Suggestion: possibility to paste an image in the clipboard directly into active pane's folder as a new file of corresponding MIME image/* type.

Re: Suggestion: direct clipboard image paste into file
Strangely, there is no overwhelming demand for directly pasting text into files - users launch appropriate applications and then paste.
Why this should be very different for other kinds of clipboard contents?

Re: Suggestion: direct clipboard image paste into file
The graphical applications I use can do this, of course. But creating the file is quite tedious. The applications are quite complex and you need to do several steps to create the file. Directly creating a file (ideally a png) would make my job a lot easier.browny wrote: 2025-05-22, 10:46 UTC Strangely, there is no overwhelming demand for directly pasting text into files - users launch appropriate applications and then paste.

Directly creating a text file from the clipboard would be useful too, by the way.

Re: Suggestion: direct clipboard image paste into file
I'm not looking for a workaround and I don't want to install another application in Windows. I want to extend the functionality of Total Commander and take advantage of its benefits.
Re: Suggestion: direct clipboard image paste into file
TC never was a clipboard manager, and maybe it should not become one.
Implementing this function as a plugin essentially would be very close to using one of the suggested third party application.
Re: Suggestion: direct clipboard image paste into file
Total Commander has many features that work with Clipboard that are somehow related to its primary function as a file manager. Creating a file from the contents of Clipboard I think fits fully into this framework.browny wrote: 2025-05-27, 23:35 UTC TC never was a clipboard manager, and maybe it should not become one.
Re: Suggestion: direct clipboard image paste into file
+1
Very useful once you start using it.
Note: Directory Opus and XYPlorer do this.
Paste (Ctrl+V) or left-Click menu (Paste special) create new image or new text file (It depends on the contents of the clipboard)
and more: drag and drop some text from any other application also create a text file.
