Edit many INIs at the same time with "Change Settings file directly"

Post by *wanderer »

When someone has redirected sections of the INI to other INIs, it would be useful if "Change Settings file directly" could be parametrized to edit more INIs than the two defaults. In the main INI, there could be a parameter similar to that:

Code: Select all

DirectEditINIs=wincmd.ini;wcx_ftp.ini;C:\dir1\custom.ini;test.ini
Or perhaps omit "wincmd.ini", it should always be opened so it could be silently added to the list when opening the editor.

That way, "Change Settings file directly" could open all of them at once.

Also, IIRC, in the past Christian you had expressed that you are in favor of letting the user edit the INIs only with notepad, but IMO a "DirectEditINIsEditor" setting would be appreciated. Nowadays with all the nice editors out there, it may be safe but certainly not very convenient to have to use notepad.

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

There could be a lot of redirected ini files (one per section), so I prefer not to open them all together.
Just add a button yourself to open the files you need.

Well, that would be up to the user (he would define the relevant INI entry so it would be up to him to decide which files he would like to open). The default should be as is now.

I just wish there was a way to configure the default functionality without having to replicate it somewhere else in TC but anyway, since it can be done manually, never mind.

Thanks.

Ultra TC Editor (Configuration Editor.exe) do it already in a compact view with search capabilities and redirect support.
If you want to have it in a text editor, you can do a macro/script to open from a RedirectSection keyword.

Hmmm... I use UTCE regularly but for Directory menu editing. I didn't have in mind the Configuration editor. Thanks for pointing it out.

It is at the bottom of the left tree:
  • Other Settings
    • Start and Directory menu
      • Directory menu
It is not as convenient as the dedicated "Start Menu Editor.exe" but you have the key and value as in the ini File. It is also not for big copy paste where a text editor is more useful.

I would advise against it. the Editor is outdated and prone to mess the ini file up.
Hoecker sie sind raus!
