[11.55] Bug: launching files from 'Downloads' folder

Post by *sam5 »

I use SumatraPDF viewer.

Launching a PDF file from 'Downloads' folder works only once after TC starts, on subsequent attempts nothing happens.

Launching a PDF file from regular folder works fine every time.

I cannot reproduce this. Here is what I tried:
1. Right clicked on pdf file in c:\users\my user name\Downloads
2. Clicked on "Open with" - "Choose other app" (translated from German Windows, so it may be different in your language)
3. Clicked on "Choose app from your PC"
4. Picked sumatrapdf.exe
5. Clicked on "Always"
-> pdf opened in SumatraPDF
6. Double clicked on another pdf
-> pdf opened as a new tab in SumatraPDF

Maybe you are trying something different?

I used "Open with" to change from SumatraPDF to Firefox and the same problem still persists.

So this isn't specific to SumatraPDF.

I am on Windows 10 x64, TC 11.55 x64.
Tried TC 11.51 x64 - same problem.

Since you write that it works "from regular folders", what's the path for the Downloads directory shown in TC?

I did more tests, thanks for asking.

The problem only exists when TC shows "\\Downloads" path.
When TC shows "c:\Users\<USER>\Downloads" - everything works.

I get to "\\Downloads" folder by clicking ".." at the drive root, then clicking "Downloads".

I'd avoid using virtual folders whenever possible and feasible as they're limited in what they can do and how TC supports them.

To quickly access your actual 'Downloads' folder, you can use a button like this:

Code: Select all

TOTALCMD#BAR#DATA
cd %$Downloads%

%Windir%\system32\shell32.dll,122
Downloads

I am doing it from "\\Downloads" folder, not from "c:\users\my user name\Downloads" folder.

When double clicking o a file in a virtual folder like "\\Downloads", I can only tell the system via the context menu interface to open the file. what happens then is unfortunately out of my influence.
