"open with" Total Commander (not just "share with")

Post by *teqexplorer »

Generally appliccable, I think, but specific use case:
The "androidcrypt" app (F-droid) only presents the native Android File app in its "open with" dialog, yet even along with some other apps like an editor, etc. (strange). (TotalCMD only presents itself via the "share" dialog.)

I would like to open files from such (Veracrypt) encrypted containers with/"into" TotalCMD instead of that useless Files app..
And: to be able to use TC to move files and folders into those encrypted containers, and to use TC to search/find files there.

(But also useful to be able to open a file or folder that is open in another Files app in TC via same method.)

TC is already visible via the "share" dialog, but for example file management related apps use "open with" instead, so I think it should be available there as well. The AndroidCrypt app states that its container folders are available via the storage part of the "hamburger menu" in those "open" dialogs.

(Being available to all apps is indeed very low/"false" "security", I know, but still want some files in such a container instead of on the far-too-open file system, especially opening up to store much more files on the SDcard via such containers without making them "too accessible" for other apps. Such containers will be kept closed most of the time. Better than nothing...)

I think this is a matter of including that option in the Manifest file, to allow TC to be available in such dialogs.

{Thanks for a solid, rocking (set of) software. Have been (registered) TC user since Windows/shareware days in the 90s, now only on Linux and Android. 8) }

Hello everyone,

just mount your container (using androidcrypt), open TC, choose 'Benutzerdefinierter Ort' (in English possibly 'Userdefined Place'?), tap the three lines in the upper left corner and choose the mounted volume (probably the last/lowest in the list). Be aware that this will create an entry in the Home-Screen of TC that has a very looooOooong name, beginning with 'veracrypt'. At least that was true for me. Also be aware that androidcrypt is in an early stage and the author does not recommend to use other filemangers than the built-in. Some features (creating folders, file-moving) sometimes end with unexpected results. Hth!
Edit 1: fixed some typos...
Edit 2: Forgot to thank Christian Ghisler for his awesome work!!!
Edit 3: Something is going on with the Github-site of androidcrypt. Since a few minutes sometimes the Releases-page shows 'There are no releases'.
Edit 4: The problem (edit3) seems to be related to GitHub itself, because NanaZip ist affected too.

Best regards!
