The name of the download looks like a crack for whatever.
I guess the post starter has some virus on his system which prevents opening .rar files.

But why would WinRAR not be blocked then?

Other possible reasons:
1. Unrar.dll may be missing. fir example, they could have tried to create a link to Total Commander on the Windows desktop, but instead copied or moved the Total Commander executable there. Then it will not find all its dlls.
2. There may be an internal association for *.rar pointing to an invalid directory.

Okay so its not the TC.. error comes from my side!?

But what is wrong then ? Its a new fresh install so i didnt misconfigure anything.. !?
I remember having this problem right after a new install since windows95!
But then i download and install WinRAR and it always worked ..

"To rule out any misconfiguration of your TC, try this:

In TC's command line (if not enabled it can be opened by pressing Shift+RightArrow) write:
Code: Select all

%COMMANDER_EXE% /i="%COMMANDER_INI_PATH%\test.ini
and pres Enter - This will start a new instance of your TC with default settings
Now try and see if you can open your test file by pressing enter on it"

I did not try this yet.. but whati did was rightclick on the rarpackage and 'Open With..'
then 'Choose another App' and choose windowstc64.exe .. and a new instance of TC is opend.. and then it all works !?

So whats wrong here ?

Yes thats what i did actually!!!

I like my TC to start automaticly with Windows so i moved the desktop shortcut to the Windows/Programs/Startup folder!

That did not trigger the automatic start with Windows so i copied the entire .exe to the Startup folder..

Hmm...

Okay that fixed the error!

Removing the .exe file from the StartUp folder .. and adding a shortcut to the .exe file fixed the .rar error !
I can now open/browse that .rar package with enter or a double click!

But now mu TC doesnt startup automaticly with Windows .. why is that now?

Did you really add a shortcut to the EXE to the startup folder? And does it launch Total Commander when you double click it?

Maybe the ability to add a Total to the startup list should be made part of the Total commands?
Insert such an item directly into the action menu.
So that users can actively enable or disable this feature themselves.

Yea..

.. shortcut of TOTALCMD64.exe copied from desktop to the (hidden) Startup folder works fine!

But it didnt start automaticly with Windows so i copied the entire TOTALCMD64.exe to the Startup folder and deleted the shortcut..
TC then did start with Windows but gave errors when trying to open .rar packeges.. (missing files probably)

So now i deleted the TOTALCMD64.exe and added the shortcut again.. and now it opens .rar packages normaly..
But now it doesnt open automaticly with Windows alltho present and enabled in Task Managers Startup tab.. :S

the StartUp folder MUST contain ONLY *.LNK files = shortcut! NO *.EXE!

Well it worked for me
Moving the entire TC program folder to the startup folder in stead of making a .lnk tile pointing to TOTALCMD64.exe is the same as living in an apartment building on the 3rd floor and instead of having a sign in the lobby telling people that you live on the 3rd floor, you move your entire apartment down in the lobby.

To make a link file to TC in the startup folder do this:
In TC open your TC program folder (the original installation folder) in one side and your personal Startup folder in the other side.
Place the cursor on TOTALCMD64.exe
Press Shift+ArrowRight to open TC's command line
Write cm_CreateShortcut and press Enter

Sorry I got that impression because you wrote:

I wouldn't make sense to copy a part of the exe file, so I thought you meant the entire TC folder.

If you move TOTALCMD64.exe out of it's installation folder and start it, TC cannot find all it's other files including the UNRAR64.DLL that takes care of entering and unpacking rar files. Rtaring TC with an orphan TOTALCMD64.exe will reduce the functionality of TC extremely much.

Ye i know how to create a shortcut
Well, since your shortcut doesn't work, I just wanted to make sure it was made correctly

OK, so since this wasn't a bug in Total Commander, I'm moving this thread to the English forum.
