Bookmark : bookmark location vs. target dir
In TC for Android, when creating/updating a bookmark, there are actually TWO "destination folders" that can be specified : Bookmark location and Target dir.
I've understood what the first one is for... but I'm not able to understand the purpose of the second (Target Dir).
And not found neither in help page nor in this forum....
Any explanation is welcome !

Re: Bookmark : bookmark location vs. target dir
Just like in Windows, Total Commander uses two windows, between which you can switch by swiping or using the three arrows at the edge.
The target window is the one that is not currently active.
The target window is the one that is not currently active.
Make it idiotproof and someone will make a better idiot.
Re: Bookmark : bookmark location vs. target dir
What you mean is that clicking on a bookmark may change current directory
- either in active panel,
- or in the alternate panel (displayed only in landscape mode),
- or in both at the same time
with different destination folder (or maybe the same, but not necessarily) in both panels.
Is that OK ?

Re: Bookmark : bookmark location vs. target dir
Not quite - it will either change the directory in the current file panel (the source panel) or in both - never in only the other panel (the target panel). Is that OK ?
Evne though the other panel may only be visible in landscape, it is always there - just swipe to the left ir the right to see the target panel - near the top right or left of the screen edge you will see 3 arrows indicating where the other panel is located (pointing the opposite way of what you have to swipe) You can tap those arrows instead of swiping to change panel.or in the alternate panel (displayed only in landscape mode),
There are also 2 equal signs - if you tap them, the target panel will be changed to the same as the source panel..

Re: Bookmark : bookmark location vs. target dir
Hello everyone,
just in case I missunderstood the first posting...
Are we talking about the dialog that pops up when one tries to add a bookmark? Because there indeed in the second line it asks for "Target Dir" and underneath there is a checkbox "Target Dir" and the next line again "Target Dir". Both lines end with >> where one can choose a directory. Just to be complete -> I'm on the german version of TC. So I dont't have "Bookmark" but "Lesezeichen" and not "Target Dir" but "Zielverzeichnis".
Best regards!

Re: Bookmark : bookmark location vs. target dir
I'm afraid this is not exact :
If you create a Bookmark, filling ONLY the "Target dir" and letting "Bookmark location" empty, you have a bookmark that, when used, changes the current directory in the target panel (not active, not visible except in landscape mode), but doing nothing in the active panel.
At least, this is the result of my last test...
Re: Bookmark : bookmark location vs. target dir
There is not a German version. In the preferences, you can choose the language.
By default, TC uses the system default language, but you can always chose what you wanT.
Personnally, my "system default" is French, and I'm generally using TC in french, but I always switch to English before writing a post on the forum, to use the English wording of menus in my post...
Re: Bookmark : bookmark location vs. target dir
Hello everyone,
you are right. Thanks for the hint, possibly it will help regarding my next posting.
But at the moment I'm still a bit lost... Is the answer to the initial question "You can create one single bookmark with target 1 opening in left panel and target 2 opening at the same time in the right panel (you still have to swipe if you want to see them both [or use TC in landscape-mode], but you can for instance copy or move files "blindly"). So there is no need to create two different bookmarks seperatly"?

Re: Bookmark : bookmark location vs. target dir
Well, that is not true either - such a bookmark will truly change the target to the stated dir, but it will also change the source dir to the home folder (the page you get to when you tap the TC logo in the upper left corner). If you create a Bookmark, filling ONLY the "Target dir" and letting "Bookmark location" empty, you have a bookmark that, when used, changes the current directory in the target panel (not active, not visible except in landscape mode), but doing nothing in the active panel.

Exact, you're right...
I thought it didn't change anything... because I started from this home folder...
