What version of SumatraPDF do you have? Try my configuration file:

Will it cause the SumatraPDF toolbar to crash? And what value do you have in the wincmd.ini file:

But same issues with version 3.6.1 release (and 3.6) (all 64bit version)

I tried your config file, and don't have cpu load issue anymore, and it also renders the top bar correctly. No crash. Interesting.

I realize my settings also save the state of last-viewed, so that when I open it again, I continue where I left off.

Read the readme:
ATTENTION: For normal operation of the plugin it is necessary in
SumatraPDF-settings.txt change the value of the parameters UseTabs = true to
UseTabs = false and RememberOpenedFiles = true to RememberOpenedFiles = false.

The actual pre-release of SumatraPDF doesn't work with the TCSumatraPDF plugin 1.20,
regardless of the settings.
In Quick view you can't go up/down in the file list with the cursor keys
it just stays in the first displayed file.

It works fine with the current production version 3.6.1

I'd like to use SumatraPDF plugin for TC, but something goes wrong.
My operation:
1) download "wlx_TCSumatraPDF_1.21.7z"
2) unzipped all files;
3) Open "Readme.txt" file in order to follow instructions;
4) Automatically install the plugin (its position is: c:\Program Files\totalcmd\PLUGINS\wlx\TCSumatraPDF\)
5) Download the portable versione of SumatraPDF64 (SumatraPDF-3.6.1-64.zip), unzipped, rename executable as "SumatraPDF64" and place in the subfolder named "SumatraPDF";
6) Edit "SumatraPDF-Setting.txt" and change parameters: UseTabs = true to UseTabs = false in SumatraPDF-settings.txt and RememberOpenedFiles = true to RememberOpenedFiles = false;
7) To test SumatraPDF alone, I opened a PDF using SumatraPDF: done with no problem;
tried to open the same pdf file surfing with TC: failed.
I have also other Lister Plugin (I use TCOfficeView to preview all Microsoft Office files): this plugin works perfectly with Microsoft Office files. Could interfere or disturb SumatraPDF?

unzipping the plugin in PLUGINS\wlx outside of TC is not enough. You have to install it you can do it from inside TC by decompressing it inside it is calling the pluginst.inf file and you should have an install dialog. Or in Configuration, Plugins, WLX then add and verify that it is registered for at least PDF extension.
View a pdf file [F3] and check if the plugin is called correctly, on lister you should see Lister (sumatrapdf), try fo force it from Lister in plugins menu choose sumatrapdf. If you do not see it it is not installed !

This is no problem.

My sumatrapdf.ini file for example.

Note that there are 2 ini file paths for the SumatraPDF settings
one for QuickView and one for Lister.
Both dirs contain a SumatraPDF-settings.txt file.
This Dirs must be writable of course.
Stop using protected dirs like program files for TC and its plugins
and you will not have to play around with file access settings.

SumatraPDF.exe is the portable x64 version which can be used in 32 and 64bit TC.
You must use the official 3.5.1 version and not the actual beta !

You have to create the folders by yourself as the read me says.
If you don't make this there will be only one setting for Quick view and Lister which gives problems.

The version 3.5.1 was I typo on my answer, it must be 3.6.1 as you found.

DirIniL=, DirIniQ= are needed only if you want to use separate settings for viewing by F3 and quick viewing by Ctrl+Q. One setting is enough for me, so I only specify path= and path64=.
For testing, it is generally enough to write path64=.

Without the different settings you have for example the problem
that the stored Window size in F3 node is destroyed by the Quick view mode.
