My list of essential TC feature requests...
Hi!
First I have tried to use TC at a daily basis around a year ago, but have found some serious (IMHO) problems and returned back to FAR. Now after a year and four official builds (6.03, 6.03a, 6.50, 6.51) I tried TC again. And all of these basic problems are still there:
1) No persistent history list of already visited dirs and all the user input fields: Copy/Move, New Directory, Unpack Files etc...
2) No persistant history in the dialog to enter parameters (Start menu)
3) It is impossible to create non-existant directories during file copy/move (F5/F6)
4) The current directory tree (Alt+F10) should be enhanced: when navigating the tree it should be possible to move the cursor to the next and the previous match.
5) The tree, which is available in Copy/Move/Pack/Unpack dialogs should be enhanced too:
- when navigating the tree it should be possible to move the cursor to the next and the previous match.
- when invoking this tree it should be possible to specify not only the drive (c:, d:) but the current directory as well (.. or $P)
- it should be possible to choose which tree (source or target) do you want to open..
6) There is no easy accessible 'Apply command to all selected files' function. ('lst2run' and 'makebat' plugins are not intuitive at all)
7) There are still no long-awaited 'virtual folders', which should replace the buggy 'TempPanel' plugin.
8) It is impossible to view/change creation/last access date in 'Change atributes' dialog
9) No visual note if you are using Branch view or not (when Button Bar is closed). I'm pretty sure there is a need of some Branch view notification in the 'Current directory' field.
Please, let's discuss these issues. Do you think they are not important at all? Am I the only one, who needs these features?

Perhaps "fixed" isn't quite the right word. Your requests don't really address "errors" in TC, just features you would like to see implemented.
Nevertheless, I am in favor of enhancements that would address most of these issues, though they would not be at the top of my list.
For instance, here is an image of an enhanced copy/move dialog I proposed a long time ago in this forum (32k).

You are right. I edited the Subject to read 'feature requests' instead of 'issues to be fixed'.
I posted this list just because I'm really curious - why these enhancements are not implemented during several years? As far as I understand most of them are not really difficult to implement... Am I wrong?

1. and 2. the more history lists the better
3. annoying, true
4. yep, shift-ctrl-enter would be nice
5. yep
6. Try http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/ChoiceEditor.html
7. Try http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/FileRedirector.html
8. yep
9. this is part of the general TC problem and would be solved by http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=6374
Well, although I support all of your wishes they haven't been made the first time as you can imagine and your list is only 5% of all the little issues on my wish list but I have given up to post such lists because they aren't read anyway.
Just sit their and wait for fixes, you can't do much more as ghisler is doing a one-man-show and has no assistant developer he can call to fix minor issues.

Hmm... Excuse, please, my ignorance, but I'm not sure I understand how can I use ChoiceEditor to run a single command on all of the selected files one by one?icfu wrote:6. Try http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/ChoiceEditor.html
Thank you for pointing me to this plugin. It seems better to me than TempPanel. But I still think all af these plugins are very feature restricted.
First, the file info is not updated in TempPanel/FileRedirector panel if the file is modified in it's original location.
Second, I still can't find a way to delete the file on it's original location by manipulating the link that is available on FileRedirector panel...
And the most annoying: it is just impossible to drag-n-drop the files from TempPanel/FileRedirector panel to an external app...

Indeed, I tend to confuse lst2str and lst2run, sorry.Hmm... Excuse, please, my ignorance, but I'm not sure I understand how can I use ChoiceEditor to run a single command on all of the selected files one by one?

ChoiceEditor can be used as an alternative to lst2str, for example it passes all marked files to UltraEdit without a problem.
With the temp panels you are correct. I have proposed the Temp Panel implementation in TC a long time ago here and I still think that it's one of the musthave features for a decent file manager.
The best approach of that in my opinion has been introduced in file manager xplorer2:
http://zabkat.com/
Its "scrap containers" are really an outstanding feature for such a new file manager. The same goes with its command line and scripting abilities, automatically transfering console output into these scrap containers for further processing is really brilliant.

Agreed. There is only request to the Xplorer2 scrap container from my side: to have an option to open the scrap container as an additional panel and not as a standalone window...Its "scrap containers" are really an outstanding feature for such a new file manager. I remember having read something like "by design" in the forum regarding the separate windows IIRC, to be able to fill it with stuff from both panels at the same time. For me an ability to show the scrap container in a tab would be sufficient, an additional panel would be too much clutter I think.
Anyway, maybe ghisler will change his mind and give us a wonderful solution integrated in TC one day, that would be best.
