if you rightclick on a file in TC you select it, and if you hold down a while, the menu cames like in explorer

There are two modes in TC, default is Norton Commander style:
Configuration -> Operation -> Mouse selection mode

:) Hello Jeff !

- I think that the point here is not the mode of selection… I use always the left button for this.
- I noticed too that under XP-Pro, the local menu is really much slower to open than under Win 98 SE before; same harware, same mouse, same TC 6.53… Especially for the first time I make a right-click to get it. Then, it seems normal. That occurs a bit randomly, though.

Not randomly, I suppose. The first time Windows have to create the full list for this menu by scanning all the necessary registry keys, but then it caches them all, and subsequent calls are performed much faster.
BTW, I didn't notice any difference between time of calling a context menu from TC and from Explorer. Maybe, dRag0nMa do mean one-second delay in right-mouse-click selection mode?

I think it is, now what? ;)

There is no difference in right clicking speed in Explorer and TC here.

This is a caching phenomenon, nothing special actually.

thx for ur reply
the slower i mean is much more than u noted.
i'm not using the NC mode
I just let tc's right-mouse do as explorer.
and any time, not the first time, it needs a long time to display the menu.
under win2003 sp1.
with tc 6.53

3 seconds is too much !

:) Hello !
- In the meantime on one hand, I though that it could be caused by a virus-scanner running in a background thread…

- On the other hand, I guess that loading ¦ caching a 16-entry menu like I have here might not need THREE seconds, with a CPU-clock @ 2.4 GHz and a 260-MB honest amount of free memory ! Long, for an item being around 1 KB…

 Kind regards,
Claude

Use ShellExView to disable entries of type "context menu" until the problem disappears.
If that doesn't help, also try ShellMenuView.

May be true. With old NOD32 versions TC was very slow to open folders. When I desabled "check on open" and left just "check on execute" everything worked fine.

Also, try icfus suggestion. It may help if that problem is related to some of the context menu handlers (I head similar problem once, and I solved it this way)

LAN entries ?

Post by *Clo »

:) Hi Jeff !

- Nice tools, as usual from your "collection" ! :D

- I suppressed entries for a programme set in another workstation via the LAN…
• I'll see @ the next reboot, but this might be better ;)
