[REQ] Better overview in copy/rename/move dialog

Post by *Lesmo16 »

For a better overview, I like to suggest a different order and different placement of the buttons in copy/rename/move dialog.

shows the difference between current and suggested dialog.

BTW: The shortcut for the button "Umbennenen" is missing in German version!

Alter in your language file (probably Wcmd_deu.lng) the line "1308=Umbennen" to "1308=&Umbennen".

If you like you may also alter the next line for a shortcur of "Anhängen"

U must be using an older Version of TC as your Picture doesnt Show the Button "Append" wich btw misses a ShortCut in the standard file too :D

But back to Topic - i dont now if the Cancel-Button should even stay as you can break the Operiation with the X-Button or Escape.

Just to comply some quasi standards, i think it should stay. Not to mention those, who use it... ;-)

I almost support the suggestion, but I don't like such a separate placement of the "Cancel" button. I think, I have a better idea: "Cancel" is rather similar to the "Skip" function, so why not place them in one line?

And also, I have an idea of improvement the visual style of the dialog. Look at the fake screenshot I've created:

I think, such dialog looks much better than the current one (as you can see, I've rearranged the buttons, so that every line contains buttons with similar functionality - as much as possible).

I like this idea. This would also help to prevent a false click for those who used to click a button on a certain position because they know it is there. You know it is not easy to change some habits.

Add a new "Rename target" button too.

I can't understand why everybody only need to rename the sourcefile.

If I what to update a file and keep the old one as a backup, I have
to do this in lots of manually steps.

Who is "everybody"? Not me for sure. ;)

I'd like to have rename target as an option too because this is the only option that would make sense to me:
Copy new file to directory, append .bak to the already existing.

I can't remember that I have used rename source in all those years...

Besides that:
I like Flint's rearrangement. :)

What about some solution like this....
This is idea, not complite work ... icons , positions or anything else is just my first/fast choice.

This is link to application I created in Visual Studio for this:
Little dialog (.NET FRAMEWORK required)

I didn't do anything for keyboard shortcuts or TAB management, but U got my point.

At first looks quite well, but when trying to use it... Hm, not for me I'd say. Current approach with possibility of seeing all the functions available at once is more convenient IMHO.

I don't agree.... because disorganisation is going to polute this dialog even more in future if some other operations are to be added. Imagine what can you do with this method ..... you could add even 10 more buttons and to access them as easy as before.

That is my opinion, of course.

Smart TAB implementatiton and hot keys would make this even faster .

I forgot to tell you that when you hover on button new menu is displayd. You don't have to go to upper menu, U can just click the button.
