[Bug] Total bytes indications

Post by *Sam_Zen »

I found an irregularity in the results when looking for the total amount of bytes in a directory.

Two ways to see that :
1) go into the dir, and select all files, checking the bar below
2) set cursor on dir and hit the spacebar.

The spacebar appears to give a slightly higher number every time, and the difference seems to get growing acoording to bigger content. I did some tests. In the order 1 - 2 :

130 Kb - 134 Kb
2.626 Kb - 2.690 Kb
299.146 Kb - 306.325 Kb
476.777 Kb - 488.220 Kb

Your file list shows bytes, your footer shows kilobibytes.

configuration => tabstops

Otherwise I cannot reproduce that, post your exact setting please.

Total Commander uses the computer definition of kBytes: 1kByte=1024 Byte, 1MByte=1024kByte.

Is not correct

:) Good afternoon,

• Like you known this is outdated and doesn't conform the norms applicable since 2005…
- The units you use are DECIMAL officially today !

- It doesn't need a big effort to get the right units; for you, the only change is in the embedded English language.
- In France (and EU I guess), the correct units must be used. There is no problem to update the *.LNG, I did ;)

2^10=1024 and NOT 1000.
Decimal is nonsence.
Cluster size is other talk.

@ghisler:
It's time to use correct binary prefixes in TC, at least optionally to not overcharge old Postkutschers.

I dont want to start a flame about binary prefix, but as long as Windows-XP (and also a lot of other programs) shows me at several points (InfoTips, file property pages, ...) the file size calculated as GibiBytes with prefix G instead of Gi, I would prefer a setting in TC, where I can decide how this prefixes should be formatted.

Kind regards
Holger

You can decide it for yourself already: update the *.LNG, like Clo did.

You can do it anyway. Get somewhere WCMD_ENG.LNG, edit it and rename it to WCMD_something.LNG. Same with *.MNU.

This is what I mean with "at least optionally".

WCMD_ENG.LNG is contained in pdavit's extended menu:
http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/TCExtMenu.html

Nothing has changed in the menu since 6.52, so this is the most recent version.

Is there anywhere an official WCMD_ENG.LNG.
Or must I retranslate and sync it from (for example) the WCMD_GER.LNG file.
What an effort.
I'm forced to do this with every new version of TC.

Kind regards
Holger

Edit: Thanks Icfu for the link :)

Anyhow you always can reach some official translator. I guess they should always have a complete WCMD_ENG.LNG - cuz they translate it :)
