I have made a custom column called sdtest ( guess what sd is short for ;-) ). For field contents I chose [=shelldetails.Subject] from the dropdown menu, and applied the changes.

My Wincmd.ini is located in c:\WINNT, but no shelldetails.ini. I can't seem to find it bye searching my entire harddrive either.

Could I make my own shelldetails.ini and put it where Wincmd.ini is?

I'm using TC Powerpack 1.41. No chance that one of the plugins already installed could be messing with me? Doesn't seem very likely...

Yes you could.

Well maybe you are not running the latest ShellDetails version which is highly recommanded. I don't give support for this "Powerpacks".

One last question, then. The reason I install shelldetails is that I want the CVS columns from tortoiseCVS to appear in tc. Is it okay if I make a shelldetails.ini which only contains:

[Directories]
Dir_1=d:\src\

or do I need more info in my ini file for it to work?

Thanks for helping!

For older ShellDetails versions such a file would be enough. However older versions contain more bugs. Newer versions automatically create a bunch of entries in ShellDetails.ini. As long as it works for you all is fine.

FYI: In the powerpack I use, it seems something is done so that all plugins place their .ini files in <install folder>/conf/foo.ini.

I guess this has already been asked but I haven't found the answer using the search tool.

Is it possible to retrieve Unix permissions with your plugin (or with other methods) I am using Samba and it will be very useful.

BTW I already appreciate the fact to be able to retrieve the Owner with it

Thanks

Hm very strange, I cannot imagine a way to force the plugins to do so. However as mentioned in the readme you may place (move) your shelldeatils.ini file there if you like to.

My plugin is just a bridge to the Explorer column system. So the general rule is if Explorer can display it Shelldetails can display it. If you don't see these columns in Explorer look out for appropriate column shell extension.

For these columns it's really necessary to read the documentation

I see, thanks, it was easier to ask here than to RTFM

EDIT: thanks, it works magnificently!

Lefteous

Up and running with tc and tortoiseCVS.

Crash report:
I opened up a branch view in one of my CVS folders, and tried to sort by info in the CVS Status column. This resulted in the following crash:

Crash in plugin ShellDetails.wdx
Access violation at address 77FCDA2F. Read of address 0000002C

The branch view had 2840 files. With a few (20-30) files it worked ok.

It also crashes if I open the mentioned branch view when I already have sorted by CVS Status.

I'm running Windows 2000 and the latest version of Shelldetails

Edited [I just noticed now what you mean by appropriate column shell and unfortunately this information cannot be displayed by column but only by right clicking properties... sorry]

Yes this information is available in Explorer see the screenshot what I don't know is how to integrate those properties to your plugin. The whole idea will be to retrieve permissions entry available in Explorer (point 6 of the screenshot) and to display the output in TC with custom columns :

Standard Unix files permissions layout :
-rw-rw-rw- 1 gbourgeo gbourgeo 6113 May 26 23:13 config.inc.php

Is it possible ?

Thanks

I cannot see this information anywhere on your screenshot. Is it displayed anywhere in Explorer?
I just see standard windows permission dialogs.

A permission plugin has been already requested in another thread. I will definitely not extend Shelldetails to a multi purpose plugin. It'a aimed to display Explorer columns in TC.
If I do something with permissions then it would be a complete new plugin :-)

Explorer is on the background, what you see are windows that have been opened after I right click on a file in Explorer (config.inc.php) and choose properties in the context menu (Alt + Enter). At first I thought that the plugin will be able to retrieve that kind of data but after I understand my mistake that the plugin was for displaying Explorer columns in TC.

OK I understand
