beta link (1 post): beta now can convert Doc/docx/odt/pdf to plain text using xdoc converter. Pls test, how does it work. (Don't install to the release folder, or rename viewer.exe)

Conversions are perfect for doc, en docx, but all french accents are lost with pdf.

Not tested with odt.

I can not make it work - If I try to open a doc, docx or pdf file, I first get a green bar at the top saying:

"Text converter is available for this file type
Click here to show text"

When I do that I get a Warning window saying "Trial!"

Thereafter I get a window sayng:
"Could not convert document to text form"

I have installed this beta in a new folder. Do I need to have MS Word installed (I don't have MS Word) ?

MSWord not needed. But i made limitation that after 01/10 conv-n won't work..

Well it is not the 1st of october yet - not on my PC either !?

I even tried setting the date on my system back to september 27th - still doesn't work.

Conversions works for me for Doc + pdf on XP SP2, with Office2003.

I have no docx right now... will test tomorrow without Office.

EDIT: found one odt ... but all empty line are not displayed, means they are removed from view.

pls try wth other documents. Also try to run xdoc from commandline (Conv\xdoc.exe 1.doc > 1.txt ): does it give proper 1.txt?

I forgot to put zlib.dll to Conv folder. (shame)
uploaded beta2.

With Beta 2 I can now open the documents - but there is now no text in the green bar that previously showed "Text converter is available for this file type Click here to show text"

And I still get an intermediate window showing "Trial" - now withot an exclamation mark - but maybe that is on purpose.

Green bar should be shown, or else how did you open the converted doc? Its hidden after click on bar.

The green bar is there - but there is no text in it - so it is only because of the precious version that I knew that I had to click in the green bar.

You were right - it was the language files for beta1 - sorry.

BTW I just noticed - when I use the (right click) "Encodings menu" the first item in the second row says Inited States (US OEM) in stead of United States (US OEM)
