- disable access to registry
- disable starting TC with .ini file in command line parameters.
- prevent remaping letter of network drive to other (writable) place.
And all this shouldn't prevent for administrator to run TC even network is down.
I need your help for tabbed browsing!

Lefteous, do you really think we should open the new thread for every remark in the conversation? If you want to discuss these "quite important .INI-things" you can easily create a new thread.
PS You may also create a new thread for discussion about the modern art.

The other thread was complete nonsense, because of many other thread discussing the same topic.
1. I don't understand what is the difference between 120 and any other posting number.Lefteous wrote:It's just this thread already consists of about 120 postings.

2 Anyway, since you use arguments like "complete nonsense", conversation is finished. Sapienti sat.
Yes, I would also appreciate a revision of the wincmd.ini-concept. Some time ago I suggested to split wincmd.ini up into tc_core.ini, tc_env.ini and tc_hist.ini. Click here to read the details.CADweazle wrote:Seems it is the time to think about the wincmd.ini-concept.
Imo all the saved settings for [SearchIn], [DirMenu], [Selection], the MRT, [Command line history]... all the "user-created-entries" should be separated in a different - maybe called "TCUser.ini".

Ok, here are some living examples of file managers that make use of tabbed panes for the aid of Christian:
http://www.tabexplorer.com/
http://www.dunesmm.nl/winnce/
http://www.frigate3.com/index.php
It seems that so far we've been trying to apply the web browsing architecture on file managing. Why not go directly to the real thing?!
Note: I came across in the past some more appropriate examples of tabbed file managers but unfortunately my memory is weakened since then! If anyone knows any of these please post here the corresponding links. Observing the functionality of already implemented features can only give ideas on implementing this on TC in the best way.

You may want to copy over some important mouse shortcuts from MYIE2:
1. Double click on tab closes it.
2. Double click in empty tab area opens a new tab.
3. Ability to lock tabs (can't be closed by accident), so you can lock the two default left/right panes.
And a bit OT, now that you're adding the ability to queue copies in the background, it would be nice if that would also include archive extraction.
And lastly. A setting to "always copy in background" with an exception for FTP transfers as using two connections isn't always allowed.

MYIE2 also has a very powerful feature where you can drag a link 3-4mm and it would open it in a new tab. It's been very useful for me as you can skip using the right-click context menu and keyboard nearly altogether. Not sure how this would apply to TV as you don't really open that many tabs in a file manage situation.

I already mentioned this in the German-Forum where the Tabs-Discussion started.
I post it here again for visitors who don't speak german:
____________________________________________________________________________________
Suggestion, borrowed from the Freeware-Internetbrowser Avantbrowser http://www.avantbrowser.com:
1. close Tabs via doubleclick
2. close Tabs via Middlemousebutton
3. close Tabs via Rightclickmenu
Within Avantbrowser Nr. 1 and 2 can be de-/activated optionaly, Nr. 3 is always at hand.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Off topic:
With Avantbrowser to open links in a new tab you can optionaly de-/activate Middlemousebutton (close Tabs via Middlemousebutton should be toggled off).
Last but not least Avantbrowser supports Mousegestures, known from Operabrowser.

When trying to close such a tab, you get an error "This tab is locked!"
When closing all tabs, these tabs are left open
When double clicking on a dir in such a tab, a new tab is opened with that dir
I assume that blocking and locking tabs is the same.
If you just wanted to suggest a shortcut for this functionality then it would be more useful to name it explicitly.
Action when creating tab
Perhaps,
When focus is currently on a directory or archive, open new tab containing that directory/archive
When focus is currently on a file, open new tab with lister of the file
I can imagine lots of other nice things tabs could contain: perhaps a semi general capability to make any menu option open in a new tab (probably via a right click on the menu option).
As always, the utility of anything provided will be partially dependent on how intuitive (easy to remember) it is.

Thanks, I have looked at how NetCaptor implements drag&drop. It's actually quite easy - dragging a tab on another will just move the Tab here. I have now implemented this in TC too, and it works very well even with standard tab controls. I have also implemented dragging of a tab to the other tab header (of the other window) to add the tab there. The well known webbrowser NetCaptor has the feature of reordering the Tabs by mouse's drag, maybe you can try it to see.(http://www.netcaptor.com)
I will consider this too, sounds like a good idea. I also found some other nice things there, like limiting the title length to a user-defined number of characters. The NetCaptor also has a checkbox option in its configuration: Display browser tabs on multiple lines. And I always enable this option to avoid clicking the scroll bar many times to see the invisible tabs.
I have also added locking of tabs - when the user tries to change directory in a locked tab, it will be opened in a new tab. Renaming of tabs now also works reliably.
