anyway search for thumbvw.dl
No such file on my PC, nor on my WIndows XP SP2 installation CD. Maybe that file is a pre-SP2 file?

Anyone with a XP SP2 installation with the file thumbvw.dll ??

:) Hello Stefan !

- That DLL is nowhere to be found here in XP-Pro SP1 HD, but it is in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\THUMBVW.DLL on the Win98 SE HD (no boot with it now, though)

I tried the thumbvw.dll (actually found it on my own old win 98SE CD - in Danish).

Whith thumbvw.dll enabled I do get thumbnails for html files.

But the thumbnail generation for jpg's is slower with thumbvw.dll than without under Win XP SP2, so I think I'll stick to XP's default handling and live without thumbnails for html files.

Just curious - which dll is responsible for thumbnails under Win XP ? - shimeng.dll ?

Hi!

Sorry for the delay, was not around here for several days...

First, yes, my html thumbs are displayed just like within a browser, and not as html source files (with html tags).
To your second statement, my settings are:

x get from lister plugins for *.jpg *.gif *.png *.tif
x use explorer method for *htm *html
o get from irfan (o means not selected!)
x plain text file.. for *.txt *.ini.

With these settings, all files defined by the above extensions are shown as thumbnails correctly. Files are only shown as icons if their type is not assigned to any of the above methods.

What are your thumbnail settings for the other file types?

Wich one??
I have downloaded from http://www.totalcmd.net/directory/lister.html:
File Thumbnails 1.0.2
and
SGViewer_1.8.7.1.zip

both of them are not very usefull. (they are removed again.)
Wilhelm M. wrote: What are your thumbnail settings for the other file types?
Dont know, dont have any i suppose.

At this time these are the thumbnails-options; all are checked.

x Get from Lister plugins for: *.*
x Use Explorer method (OLE2) for: *.*
x Get from Irfan-/XNview for: *.*
x Plain text file thumbnails for: *.*

It seems with Irfan used, i have thumbnailviews for:
jpg, bmp, gif, ico, ppt, mpg, avi, pdf.

Still, i have html thumbs shown with tags. :(

Wich one??
Imagine.wlx . The plugin needs not be a special thumbnail plugin, just a viewer for the indicated file types. And that brings us to:
x Get from Lister plugins for: *.*
x Use Explorer method (OLE2) for: *.*
x Get from Irfan-/XNview for: *.*
x Plain text file thumbnails for: *.*
This seems definitely wrong to me. You select all methods for all files. Maybe I'm wrong but I think there will be a conflict between different methods. How shall TC decide which method it shall use?

[Edit] Okay, I've just examined the TC help. There is no conflict, but the methods are subsequently applied in the order of their appearance. Maybe this process lasts unexpectedly long? I have found out that the html files are displayed very slowly. At first they are only shown as icons, which are replaced by the html contents after several seconds. What happens if you select my settings (given above)?

Okay, i have downloaded and installed Imagine.wlx; then i have used youre settings exacly as written.
All images shows as thumbnails, but htm pages apears as an enlarged icon.

To experiment i added *.htm to
x Plain text file thumbnails for: *.txt *.ini
and unchecked
o Use Explorer method (OLE2) for: *.htm *.html
what causes the htm files to show as txt with the htmlcode, so that didnt worked.
Beside that i added an large (over 1mb) htmfile to watch the process, but it didnt made any difference.

Experimenting with your setting

x Get from Lister plugins for: *.*
x Use Explorer method (OLE2) for: *.*
x Get from Irfan-/XNview for: *.*
x Plain text file thumbnails for: *.*

resulted as above, both htm file showed at once, without any delay what so ever, but offcourse with htmlcode.

Sorry for my misleading words! The settings

x Get from Lister plugins for: *.*
x Use Explorer method (OLE2) for: *.*
x Get from Irfan-/XNview for: *.*
x Plain text file thumbnails for: *.*

are NOT my settings - they are yours ! With "given above" I meant those given in my previous posting, ie.

x get from lister plugins for *.jpg *.gif *.png *.tif
x use explorer method for *htm *html
o get from irfan (o means not selected!)
x plain text file.. for *.txt *.ini.

Of course, if you need additional graphic file types (e.g. bmp, wmf etc.), you must add them to the first line. Give it a (final?) try!

AND: the delay occures only if the html files are displayed correctly (i.e. as Web files), not as pure text. So my guess was that in your case the delay might even be longer and you simply lost patience  But this a rather wild guess...

The final results are:

Checked: Get from Lister plugins for: *.jpg *.bmp *.gif *.ico
Checked: Use Explorer method (OLE2) for: *.htm *.html
Unchecked: Get from Irfan-/XNview for: *.*
Checked: Plain text file thumbnails for: *.txt *.ini *.css

Regrettable it didnt worked att all. The htm files still showed as enlarged icons.

Adding *.htm *.html to
Checked: Plain text file thumbnails for: *.txt *.ini *.css
did show the text again but alsoo with the htmlcode.

So, with everything failed, i think i go back to the very first setting and be content with it.

You have a good weekend.

It is already established previously in this thread that you need the thumbvw.dll library in order to get thumbnails for html files using the Explorer method.

thumbvw.dll is standard in Win 98 and Win Me (and Win 2000 I believe), but NOT in Win XP - So if you are running Win XP you cannot just get thumbnails for html files using the Explorer method.

If you get a copy of thumbvw.dll and run this command from the commandline:

Code: Select all

regsvr32 thumbvw.dll
then you can see the html thumbnails even under Win XP.

Now that just made my day, i exualy can see htm files without the code. Its amazing. Thanks pal, friends for life!!! :D

For those who need the thumbvw.dll library:

go to http://dll.yaroslavl.ru/index.php3?lng=&in_char=T

and download the largest of the 2.
Place the file into Windows/System, than startmenu-run and type:

regsvr32 thumbvw.dll

press enter and thats it.
