is it allowed for you to write a plugin and only release the source code but not the binary?

really interesting how the laws are...

FYI: It should be quite easy to make an SCP Plugin using libcurl (well known from curl in php). It implements SCP besides other standard inet protocols..

@ghisler:
Would it be possible for you to implement SCP directly into TC if the user downloads libcurl.dll (just as openssl dlls for SSL/TLS)?

This way, you would not need to implement any crypting algorithms.

I think it seems a great solution. I don't find any difference between this solution and the ftps solution.

Moreover, it would be very useful to have SFTP in total commander without having to use a plugin.

I've been using Total Commander for the last 5-6 years. I'm addicted to it and I love it. I'm a registered user and I can't think of living without it.

I also use WinSCP on a daily basis. It's also a tool I can't do without...

It's a shame that the author of WinSCP decided NOT to support Total Commander and chose to support FAR as a plugin. I don't think that adding SCP support is so difficult. Isn't there someone able to create such a plugin? I hate to see Total Commander not getting the support and respect it deserves... :(

I've read the post from ghisler mentioning that he can't develop such a plugin due to encyption exporting laws... I'm sure though that the community of Total Commander users is more that capable of creating such a plugin in a flash (even with the guidance of ghisler him self). So come on people! We've all been using this wonderful tool daily. Let's show everyone what's the best file manager out there...

There's a large thread on WinSCP support site from people asking for Total Commander support from the author of WinSCP (Edit: Can't post a URL yet since I'm a noob at this forum...) who eventually turns them down and suggests that they should use FAR instead...

Probably yes. However, I don't currently know how much work it would be to support libcurl. SCP is completely different from FTP, while FTPS is really FTP over SSL.

Ok.. maybe there is someone who like's to make an filesystem plugin... Which also could be an "template" for you to integrate it directly... If I had time to do it, i would do it on my own... But unfortunately, things won't change in near future.. :(

Hi All,
I just tried the sftp plugin by Petrich&Kanich against a RetHat server with SCP and SSH enabled and it seems to work allright :) Can't tell the RHEL version, but it's a brand new VM.

Have you tried my new sftp plugin too? There is a separate thread here in the plugins forum:
http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=19994

It's based on LibCurl.

Does this limitation still exist?
(Because you already implemented decryption of ZIP files...)

Yes, the restrictions remain because libcurl is open source. The Swiss laws forbid me to distribute encryption which can be easily modified by the end user. But the user can download libcurl himself for my plugin.

Other solution to use sftp/scp with totalcmd

Post by *perog »

I have been using Bitwise Tunnelier (free for personal use) together with TC for a while now and it works terrific. You can use tunnelier to log in to your server by ssh and then you can use the sftp to ftp function to make a tunnel to a local port on your comuter. Then just use ftp as usual in TC to log in to the local port. The SFTP implementation is faster (dl/ul large files, dir listing etc) than the other SFTP plugin mentioned here. Awsome versatile application for other tunnel handeling tasks as well.

Clarify SCP support

Post by *SkipR »

ghisler(Author) wrote:Have you tried my new sftp plugin too? There is a separate thread here in the plugins forum:
see ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=19994
It's based on LibC u r l
On the plugin page SFTP v1.0:
Alows to access remote servers via secure FTP (FTP via SSH). Requires SSH2. This is NOT the same as SCP! The plugin is no longer based on Putty source code ...
The description may confuse people that SCP is supported by plugin how about writing it as :
Alows to access remote servers via secure FTP (FTP via SSH) or SCP (via SSH) using third party library. Requires SSH2. The plugin is no longer based on Putty source code ...
@ghisler(Author),
would this be more accurate?
