That would indeed be great! I highly appreciate this live-update in e.g. winamp when you press 'J' in a playlist to quick-filter songs. See a short video if you don't like winamp and therefore never used it...

Yes, I think too this would't be that easy exactly for the reason you stated.
The filtering mechanism itself shouldn't be too hard tro implement I assume, but how should the results be displayed? The found folders can be in different levels in the tree.
Hm, wait,... I just have an idea: The TREEINFO.WC file from which the ALT+F10 tree reads the directory list looks like this:
What about a kind of "CTRL+ALT+F10-List" in adition to the ALT+F10 tree? If the content of the WC-file was displayed directly, quickfiltering should be no problem I assume...

Good idea, StickyNomad!
F3 in foobar is 'J' in winamp. I use it a lot.

BTW, the new choose-command-dialog already uses such 'real-time' filtering. I assume this function could easily be resused in the 'CD-List'. It would just filter another file...
Instead of providing a specific cd-list dialog, also a button could be placed in the cd-tree to switch between treeview and listview in the same dialog, I think this could be even better than two dialogs.
An awesome killer-enhancement would be an additional checkmark to show the contents of _all_ drives at once (like in the above shot). This would make this dialog nearly almighty IMO.

The more I think of this feature, the more I miss it already. I really hope you will consider this enhancement for some later version.
With the suggested realtime-filter and the option to list all drives at once, the CD-tree would evolve to an extremely powerful search-and-navigation-centre.
