Sorry, no. Due to hard drive failture year ago, I've lost it's sources. My backups were quite old and I decided not to develop it anymore.

TotalEditor Infected or Virustotal Reports GrapeVine Virus?

Post by *karlchen »

Hi, folks.

I downloaded the file addAdd_TotalEditor_0.2.zip and uploaded it to Virustotal on addAdd_TotalEditor_0.2.zip.

The results seem to indicate there might be something wrong. But the verdicts simply look too different, too vague, in most cases. Therefore I wonder whether it may just be another example of grapevine virus. I.e. a false positive reported by one or two of the well-known AV products that gets adopted by other AV producers without verifying that the thread is real. Motto: if they report it as a thread, we better report so too, no matter whether it is a false alert in the end. Cf. Cascading false positives and On the way to better testing, too.

As currently Kaspersky and Symantec (here locally) agree that the file is not infected by anything, my bet is we are seeing a grapevine virus on Virustotal. - Yet, the decision to believe or disbelieve, to trust or not to trust whomever is on you.

Kind regards,
Karl

Thanks for the reports. These are false positives.
You're welcome to notify you AV vendors about the problems their products have with Total Editor.
