There is no Windows 3.11 version of TC 7.Not to mention that TC still supports Windows 3.11 (which do not have a "Program Files" folder) and before you ask, yes there are still Win31 users out there! If Christian decides to drop support for older Windows versions, he may also consider changing the default dir. Until then, i don't see things changing.

I hadn't noticed that. I guess that Christian has already started dropping support for older Windows versions after all. Understandable. The maintenance cost is probably too high.Lefteous wrote:There is no Windows 3.11 version of TC 7.

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

I guess the first one. Imagine trying to implement "icons in menus" in Win31.djk wrote:There is no Windows 3.11 version of TC 7 at all or there is no BETA version of TC7 for Win3.x?

TC commands Windows.
It is better that TC is outside the default Windows folders.
For example, many times I restore the operating sistem using a boot cd and replacing operating system folders with the backed up ones.
TC folder is always there. Untouched.
I know TC runs on Windows but I like to see TC even "phisically" outside Windows.
And, as far as possible, with its files and its configuration stored in only one folder. The most important folder of "C" root.

I understand the idea of "Program Files" directory but... Many programs just pissed on user and install themselves into it without (!) any possibility to change dir. Program Files is the most crappy folder for Windows OS. It is very good for TC to be outside this whole circus.
Maybe following by other apps behaviour it should be not "Program Files" but "Program Files\Ghisler\total commander 7"?
P.S. "Yes, like every other good windows program"
In my opinion "good" programs gives You possibility to change dafault directory. "Weird" apps always installs into PF with schema "company\app_name".

I'm not saying the user shouldn't have a choice. I'm only saying that the default should be in Program Files.fenix_productions wrote:I understand the idea of "Program Files" directory but... Ever I can prevent, no program will be installed in the C partition. C is only for OS not more.
When it crashs or something else, the last image will be activated.
All other programs are installed on the D partition in different (sub)folders.
WinCmd is still the standard folder for TC in the past and in the future.
