why cm_LanguageConfig needs a shortcut? It's a one time setting.
Not for me - I swith between Danish an English quite often - for example when I report a bug or describe a setting or make a screenshot for this forum - then I switch to English - I don't think many people will have much interest in getting these things in Danish ;-)

I see your point but this discussion is for implementing defaults for the majority (at least this is what I think it is).

For special needs there's always the possibility to further customize the shortcuts.

I still think that CA combinations should not be used in case people wants to use CA+Letter for Quicksearch.

While it could be okay to add some shortcuts that presently doesn't exist, I don't think it is a good idea to change shorcuts that people has been living with for years (i have used WC since 1993).

Some of the functions on your list already has shortcut keys, hence don't need new ones:
CS+E=cm_CompareDirs
cm_CompareDirs already has Shift+F2 as hotkey - but cm_CompareDirsWithSubdirs could need a shortcut

C+P=cm_PrintFile
cm_PrintFile already has Ctrl+F9 as hotkey - but cm_PrintDir and cm_PrintDirSub could need hotkeys

CA+3=cm_FocusCmdLine
Shift+ArrowLeft and Shift+ArrowRight (and in most views ArrowLeft/Right) already puts focus on the command line.

CA+E=cm_AddPathToCmdline
cm_AddPathToCmdline already Has Ctrl+P as shortcut

CA+T=cm_SwitchSeparateTree
cm_SwitchSeparateTree already has Ctrl+Shift+F8 as hotkey

CS+Z=cm_SrcThumbs
cm_SrcThumbs already has Ctrl+Shift+F1 as hotkey

- I use CA+C=cm_CopyNamesToClip and CS+C=cm_CopyNetNamesToClip which I find way more natural and ready to use with only one hand than any F11 combo.
Thank you Roentgen!

That's exactly what I want: a debate with arguments.
I want to use most common like others.
At the finish I will put shortcuts section here and everybody can use approximately the same shortcuts. More natural.

I agree, it's a good chance TC possibility of key changes.

I'm thinking about CA+C and CS+C and how those changes are affect the others keys combination. BTW, I agree any keys combination witch is sustain by the others.

Anyone else?

Best wishes,

What you say about:

F11=cm_LanguageConfig ;can missing

A+F11=cm_CopySrcPathtoClip
S+F11=cm_CopyTrgPathtoClip
CA+F11=cm_CopyNetNamesToClip

F12=cm_CopyNamesToClip
A+F12=cm_CopyFullNameToClip
S+F12=cm_LoadSelectionFromClip

It's enough only one hand: the other!
Try!

CS+E=cm_CompareDirscm_CompareDirs already has Shift+F2 as hotkey - but cm_CompareDirsWithSubdirs could need a shortcut.
Ok - 2nd case.
C+P=cm_PrintFile
cm_PrintFile already has Ctrl+F9 as hotkey - but cm_PrintDir and cm_PrintDirSub could need hotkeys
I know, but I don't agree. Ctrl-P is very intuitive. Ctrl-Shift-P can be something like that.

CA+3=cm_FocusCmdLine
Shift+ArrowLeft and Shift+ArrowRight (and in most views ArrowLeft/Right) already puts focus on the command line.
Ok, I agree. I will remove it.
CA+E=cm_AddPathToCmdline
cm_AddPathToCmdline already Has Ctrl+P as shortcut
Ok. I have already removed.

CA+T=cm_SwitchSeparateTree
cm_SwitchSeparateTree already has Ctrl+Shift+F8 as hotkey
I want to keep this combination, because on some computers (laptops) the default one doesn't work always.

CS+Z=cm_SrcThumbs
cm_SrcThumbs already has Ctrl+Shift+F1 as hotkey
I want to keep this, because it's much easier to operate with one hand (see Roengen above) than default.

BTW, it doesn't matter if a command has two key shortcuts, if those don't disturb the others and are more comfortable to use.
Also, who wants to use Ctrl+Alt+Letter for quick search must think again.

This scheme is available for everyone who uses Alt+Letter for quick search.

The file with the result is here http://www.totalcommander.ro/tc/combi.ini and will be kept up to date.
Just copy-paste into a file, add + remove personal setting and That's it!

Best wishes,

Additionally any combination of Ctrl-Alt-key, Ctrl-Shift-key or Ctrl-Shift-Alt-key could be otherwise assigned by the OS for starting/activating programs. ;-)
My basic setting here has 12 keyboard shortcuts reserved from the OS (highest priority over any program hotkeys), including 3 for TC (2 tasks for using, the 3rd for testing).

So everybody probably has his/her own settings, respecting existing standard-shortcuts of the used programs.
So IMO it's best to not change shortcuts-standards in the program. Otherwise some users can't use some of the new shortcuts or have to redefine their settings.

I remember the old Norton Commander for DOS which I used before I found Total Commander more than 10 years ago. NC had a nice feature that made it easy to learn shortcuts: The captions for the F3, F4, F5, etc. would change when you pressed the Alt button (or Shift or Ctrl) to reflect the change of function for these "buttons".

TC has copied the button bar at the bottom from NC. My suggestion is that TC also should change caption for these buttons when Alt, Ctrl, or Shift is pressed: When Alt is pressed, "F5 Copy" should change to "F5 Compress"; "F6 Move" to "F6 Unpack"; "F7 NewFolder" to "F7 Search", to name a few (these are actual functions used by the TC buttons today, but there are no visual indication of the change of function).

http://www.totalcommander.ro/descarca/shortcuts.rar
This is an up to date of combinations, for Copy/Paste, with those proposals:

1.1) Alt+Shift+Num + = Select files with same name
1.2) Alt+Shift+Num - = UnSelect files with same name

2.1) Ctrl+F3 = Compare by content with default compare tool (external if is defined)
2.2) Ctr+Shift+Alt+F3 = Sort by name

BTW, always I think few people use this combination for sort order by name because is quite simple to sort with mouse on name field.

Advantages:
Everywhere are available same combinations:
Ctrl+F3 - for external compare tool
Ctrl+Shift+F3 - for internal compare tool

Where?

In:
- Main windows (both, same or not, windows)
- Overwrite on copy dialog
- Synchronize tool

Other default shortcuts are original of TC, except F2 which can rename in line.

Well, I do (as probably most keyboard users?).

Wouldn't it be more simple for mouse users to generate buttons for cm_CompareFilesByContent / cm_IntCompareFilesByContent (without taking away existing keyboard shortcuts)?

This is already the case for Ctrl-Shift-F3, if you assign it to cm_CompareFilesByContent (because in Overwrite dialog + SyncTool Ctrl-F3 and Ctrl-Shift-F3 both do the same).

Of course, I forgot:
2.1) Ctrl+F3 = Compare by content with default compare tool (external if is defined)
2.2) Ctrl+Shift+F3 = Compare by content with internal tool

That's the point! Everywhere are the same shortcuts.
