I very much support this feature request!
For those working on macs, have a look at ForkLift (i.e. a gradually improving TC imitation). They implemented the feature and it works just fine (with the servers I'm using, that is). And it IS a significant time saver!
Make it an option, if necessary (as suggested earlier).
