Just to set the record straight. My purpose in starting this thread was to promote discussion of possible features and enhancements for future versions of TC (such as "breadcrumbs" and rename scripts), not to promote another tools.

Almost all features that are now realised in DO9 was suggested in the TC forum before. [REQ] Breadcrumb navigation in "current directory"
I am sure you will find a suitable thread for "rename scripts" when searching.
Well, I haven't seen much use in that "breadcrumb" bar because I use mainly the keyboard in Total Commander to navigate through directories, not the mouse. Even for mouse users, I doubt that it is that useful in a 2 panel file manager like Total Commander. The separate "buttons" and dropdowns per path take a lot of screen space, so it really makes sense only if there is enough screen space. In Explorer with a single file panel, this isn't really a problem.
Vista and its explorer has got some great new enhancements:
-Use checkmarks for the marking of files
-Saving Searches by creating virtual folders
-Breadcrumb navigation bar
The use of these features will become standard for new customers.
Don't need to mention here that most users love to navigate by using the mouse and some may have a monitor with plenty of screen space.
I would like to have an option when TC is installed in Vista, asking me to replace the "Current directory" with Explorers breadcrumb navigation bar.

As far as I understood it they are only visible until you find the desired directory. Just like the Windows Start menu only takes up space until you click the program you want to run.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.
Breadcrumb or not the "currect directory" element could be improved. The first thing to improve would be a convenient way to see the whole path even if there is not enough space. I think for this field a way to horizontally scroll the path would be the best solution.
I also like the idea of making each path element a drag&drop target.

There could be an option to show only one navigation bar for the active panel.
Another option could offer to show both navigation bars underneath each other.

Maybe I didn't write this clear enough. I ment showing _another_ part of the path not the whole path at once. For the whole path more space is required. A solution is required _without_ using more space.

I agree, this would indeed be useful. I could think of two commands cm_scrollPathfieldLeft/-Right, perhaps plus two (optional) tiny scrollbuttons at the right side of the path field.
I also like the idea of making each path element a drag&drop target.
I also agree on this one. I think a slight highlighting of the currently targeted part of the path would be mandatory then, so you can see where the file will be dropped. And to go further, if the path is too wide to fit into the path field, it could perhaps even be scrolled automatically if you drag a file to a partly visible path part.
