Christian,
Very limited thanks from me, as I am using the brief view and with the Quickfilter I very rarely have more than one column of filtered files but still cannot edit the filter string. :(

IMO the next two steps should be:
1. Support to replace selected text. Currently the selection is just ignored and the cursor is set to the beginning of it.
-> I have to use "Shift+Pos1, Del, Text" instead of "Shift+Pos1"

2. Support for Ctrl+x,Ctrl+c,Ctrl+v,Ctrl+z to work on file list
My first thougt was to use this combinations for the edit field itself, but this wouldnt be quick anymore.
-> Currently this shortcuts do nothing - you have to press ESC to make them work.

I would rather stay with your first thought because I think that QuickFilter dialogue should work like standard edit control as much as it possible.

We had some problems with left/right arrows being taken by list and now we want other keys to behave same way, like something we did not want to in the first place?

I know that it's not possible to satisfy everyone because QuickFilter and files list can use the same shortcuts and their priorities vary from one user to another. In that case top-most control should be more important IMHO.

Anything but disabling the shortcuts would be better.

Order for goodness (IMO) of different approaches:
1. Best would of cause to make it customizeable. (Also Hacker would benefit from that.)
2. My is not the very consistent, but I think it will be the one with the most useability
3. Your aproach

Sorry you end up at the bottom, but its my (objective :D) opinion

Christian,
Waah, this is killing me. To edit a string I either have to use backspace to delete what I just entered, or take the mouse and aim precisely. Grr.
Please, change it also for Brief view. Or add some internal commands for navigation within the quickfilter and the file list (as suggested at the beggining of this thread).

Thanks
