If they did, then they broke it again with one of the newer updates. I have all of the updates up to now. ;)

It's the reason for which I didn't install any update in my XP-Pro!
Other: I'd an idea for you about icons; unfortunately, I can't apply it because an abnormal behaviour of the buttons settings in the 6.01.

I don't have the "IsShortcut" key under this. I have it under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile. If I remove it there, I lose the shortcut arrows but the lnk files give me errors then. This is the key Christian is referring to.

You're lucky, then. The only way I can get the lnk files to not give me the error message is if I leave the shortcut key alone (and have unsightly arrows on the shortcuts). Windows Explorer must be using something different. Clicking on the lnk files works fine in there without the IsShortcut key.

I once made a program that could get info from lnk and pif files. It doesn't seem to have any trouble getting the target and working path from a lnk file, even if the value IsShortcut has been deleted. So instead of executing the lnk file through ShellExecute, get the target and working path, and execute that through ShellExecute.

Get the source code here: FL_GetShortcutInfo.txt

I'm not doing this because links can contain all kinds of things like virtual folders and other objects, or even "run as different user". Does your tool do all of this?

No it doesn't :P
Could't you check for the IsShortcut value, and if it isn't there run the shortcut this way?

Now I'm curious to as how Windows Explorer does it. It works with lnk files when the IsShortcut key is missing. Do you think Billy gates will give up his secret on this? ;)

LOL @ Claude

This will be the twins first real Christmas. They are 13 months old now. They should enjoy it a little more than they would have last year. ;)

Sorry you'll be alone, my friend. But I'm here for ya! :)

BTW, Claude, I have to know...how old are you?

And to stay on subject...I'm not holding my breath on Billy giving up any secrets. :)

8) Not confidential: I'm 61 (and 6 months...)... I'ld prefer these digits in reverse order, though it's still true in my state of mind...
:) Cheers! (otherwise, Christian'll use his stick on our fingers!)
