So much for my original question...

Clo,
I personally don't care about smileys, I was talking about other forum members.
Isn't the DOS line-lenght limited at 255 characters?
I don't know anything that would be called a "DOS line". AFAI understand the comment should be a string, where the only limitation I can see is the old Delphi limitation of 256 chars - that brought to the idea that TC itself might impose this limit accidentally and not because of compatibility reasons.

TIA

:) Hi Roman!

  I know, but that allowed to "adjust the clocks"...

¤ It's just a picture... I used a lot DOS some years ago, and command-lines were limited up to 255 characters... It's only a similar line lenght!
¤ Moreover, maybe there are norms about these comment-files?
¤ Also, the limitation for names at 8.3 characters for files.bbs is typically "DOS", isn't it?
¤ Offtopic: the "hidden" attribute for these files bothers... What do you think?

Well, that was the question - if it is a norm or a TC bug.
Also, the limitation for names at 8.3 characters for files.bbs is typically "DOS", isn't it?
It is, but I don't see any connection.
Offtopic: the "hidden" attribute for these files bothers... What do you think?
Hmm, I personally don't care, I always have show hidden files on.

French expression...

Adjust the clocks?
   It's a French expression which means: to enlighten the debate, forcing a bit each one to tell what he(she) thinks really...

:P In serious life situations, that can end as a pretty brawl!

Oh OK, thanks. :)

My original question remains, though.

The descript.ion format was invented by the makers of the command line processor 4dos and 4nt. According to their specifications, the maximum length of a comment is 511 characters.

Cheese AND dessert...

Post by *Clo »

2ghisler(Author)
Hello!
• I tested a 509-character text-balloon as a comment with descript.ion.
• It works, but unusable, because the beginning of the string is out the screen, and the end too (screen = 17" - 1024*768).
:( Since it must be a single line, impossible to make a break when writing the comment, like it's possible in HTML.

• That needs files.bbs ... with DOS 8.3 names.
Cheese or dessert, not both!

:?: Is a third nice system somewhere, to get cheese and dessert ?
EDIT:
• I noticed that Win XP-Pro creates info-balloons for files in <Windows> dir. and other places... The lines are wrapped! But in which file is it stored - if it's in a file- ? Nowhere to be found in 1071.2 MB that <windows> dir contains! Maybe in the Register... ? These balloons are created even for new files I created and added in <windows> ???

 Kind regards,
Claude

Oh yes, thank you... I had already fixed mine too (I found a little bit more of garbage) I just wanted to warn the author of the translation, but I guess I am the only esperantist around here :)

Maybe it's possible to include some control characters like the \n of C (even though TC is made in Delphi, #13 perhaps) to break long lines. Or including an option to wrap lines longer than N characters

:D   Hello!
    Infortunately, none wrap-character / operator works... 10 and /or 13 make(s) a wrapping "on the spot" in the edit-field, but isn't reported on the screen. The same if they are typed as Alt+013 or Alt+13
\n doesn't work, since descript.ion has a 4DOS origine so doesn't care of that operator.
I already tested that before, attempting to get captions in several languages for the buttons in the bar, each on a row, nothing worked.
 Kind regards,
Clo

I used to get a great deal of pleasure in writing batch files under 4dos. Have most of them archived away somewhere...

Total Commander DOES wrap also descript.ion comments! But only if the comment contains spaces, otherwise there is no break where it can wrap! It's quite unusual to write a long comment without a single space in it.
